Game is pretty solid, not amazing - but pretty fun. This is pretty much the kind of game that Sonytards would hype as a AAA release if it was exclusive to the PS3, but it's Xbox owners are all like, "Eh."

No, the cut scene animation is honestly truly terrible. See that image someone posted earlier of Alans wife? That was her actually saying a sentence. It's LAFFO.

He's right, some of the animation is pretty eh-oh-el.

I love the episode format. I really hope another developer takes this concept and runs with it.

really loving this so far.

the only thing i would change so far is adding credits to the end of every chapter. even if they'd be the same for every chapter. it would add so much to the already top notch a++++ atmosphere and style.

The point is that you claimed you'd never played a game that did it when I sent you Sakura Wars almost two months ago.

How long'd it take you when you got the package from Amazon to get your ass to GameStop to trade it in? :(

I didn't cite Japanese animation, I cited Sakura Wars, a long-running game series which has traditionally had an episodic format.  It was even lauded for it when it first came out...fifteen years before Alan Wake.

Also, flat-out lying about what I said, Willco?  Tsk, tsk.  I never said "tons of developers" have done it.  I said it had been done plenty of times before.  Which it has.  By the Sakura Wars series. :smug

Dude, this isn't about quality.  It doesn't matter whether the show is crap or not.  Your argument is that a television show that aired on television in episodic format is not "real television" because it was animated.  Which is a completely distinguished mentally-challenged, wrongheaded argument.

And all this desperate damage control just because I mentioned the Sakura Wars series has had the whole episodic format thing going on for a while?  You must really be bored.

Point taken.  You obviously haven't played it yet, though, since the game is set up like a TV show, right down to the "next episode" previews.

Willco, just because you keep trying to pretend I got owned because "anime TV shows aren't real TV shows and anime fans and anime and :lol anime" doesn't make it actually so.

Now go watch some 8th MS Team and post a summary up on the anime thread in Real Talk, and then call me in the morning.

It actually is.  Regardless of what your opinion of it may be, it airs on TV, it gets renewed or canceled based on ratings, and it has a continuing storyline.

Just because Willco keeps spamming :rofl smileys doesn't mean I have to keep responding to something that is just a lie on its face.

And BTW, if Sakura Wars wasn't "anime" - if it had 3D characters and a totally different aesthetic - it would STILL be episodic and structured like a TV show.  Willco is just focusing on the surface instead of actual content...which actually explains a lot about him.

You know, Willco, if you enjoyed Alan Wake and appreciated its innovative episodic format, might I recommend Sakura WarsTM, available now for the PlayStation 2 and Wii consoles?

If you liked Alan Wake, you'll love Sakura WarsTM!  Bonus points if you ever dated an asian chick...it will give you an added element of nostalgia as you interact with the irrational-yet-loveable cast of characters.

If you're interested in finding out more about Sakura WarsTM, please check out the official thread on this very forum!

Why can't you guys accept the simple fact that television is only television if Wilco says it's television and not before Wilco says it's television? You know, Willco, I have it on good authority that the creators of Alan Wake were inspired by Sakura WarsTM when they switched from an open-world, free-roaming format to an episodic one.

You really owe it to yourself to check out Sakura WarsTM.  It's got rock-solid gameplay combined with the episodic format you loved so much in Alan Wake!  Why, it's a perfect combination!  With Alan Wake following in its foosteps, who knows how far the influence of the Sakura WarsTM franchise will spread?  Pick up a copy today so you can boast to all your gamer friends that you were THERE when the phenomenon hit America like a fucking shockwave!
