I hate you credit card company
« on: December 08, 2009, 07:43:45 PM »
So, after I've been on time with my payments, and often making significantly more than the minimum payment, I was late with a payment. By twelve hours. I send my payments electronically, and usually my credit card company sends me a paper or e-mail reminder, but that didn't occur this time (I found out it had to do with something about resetting my alerts).

... as soon as I remembered, I rushed through a payment, hoping that it would still count because it was due on Saturday (and I made the payment on Sunday morning). But no, I got hit with a late fee, and considering I had just paid a rush charge in addition to the payment, along with all my Christmas expenditures, this $35 fee kind of hurt.

So when I called, asking if they could help since I was a card holder with a pristine record for over a year, they begrudgingly cut the late fee in half and made it clear that they were doing me a favor. So not only did they get my payment, plus the rush fee for processing it, but they still walk away with a late fee.

And I'm somehow the winner here?

Then the customer service rep tried to sell me on life insurance for about ten minutes, despite the fact that I said, "... if I die, I do hope it's a horrible financial burden on my family, so they can realize what cunts they have been!" I mean, they would not let me hang up. This was after taking me to the cleaners.

Ugh.

Yeah, to get the payment to post as soon as possible, you have to pay a rush processing fee. Otherwise it takes a couple of days. I was trying to get them the money as quickly as possible, hoping to avoid a late fee.

I never even knew you could rush an online payment actually.

Just say that you have to go to class or something when they start badgering you about bullshit.  I just did that two minutes ago when a telemarketer tried to get me to sign up for government grants.

I think my account history, along with the fact that I paid a hefty rush payment fee just hours after it was due, should show it was a momentary lapse in judgment. And like I said, it didn't help that my credit card company conveniently decided to reset my alerts, thus I had no e-mail reminders.

Heck, I paid the entire card off a month ago. I'm no bum.

Not a Credit Card but I've read (and seen first hand) horror stories with Debit Cards and postings of transactions. Bank of America in particular is known for taking two transactions and mixing them up, allowing the transaction that was less to go first (when it was second) and the one that was more to go second so you end up over drafting. Such bullshit. There's also cases where it takes like 3 weeks for a simple pump at the Gas station to show up.

Some of those taking forever to post are not the bank's fault but the station's fault. I know several local stations in my area that only deposit debit/credit info weekly, instead of daily.

places with tons of smaller transactions will send them all at once to avoid multiple fees when they collect from the company.  and bank of america is terrible about rearranging transactions to benefit them.  they'll throw the largest payment first, then let each of the smaller transactions bounce and get tons of NSF fees instead of letting the small ones get through and NSF one transaction.  Buncha assholes.

it's usually done by descending order, so the highest transactions have priority over the smaller ones. they claim the system is setup so if you paid a bill by check or your atm card, it will lessen its chances of being bouncing back and fucking up your credit score since it'll have priority, though evidence has shown that when other banks adopted this system, their revenues from over-drafting fees multiplied. not to mention that car, insurance, phone payments and such are pretty lenient/forgiving when it comes to deadlines.

so of course me knowing a little on the subject, i had a horror story with wachovia. i had a preorder with amazon which shipped nearly a month prior to the expected release date, and as usual, without asking, they charged my cc and shiped the product out immediately thinking they've done me a favor. i went to go deposit my check since i was going on vacation the following day and was shocked to find i had a negative balance. so i went back home and thoroughly checked my statement and found they charged the higher transactions first, amazon being this case, saving the three minuscule charges totaling 6 dollars and 14 cents i made at 7-11 during the past week for last. this added up to having three overdraft charges, with each additional one weighing more than the other, equaling a total of 174 dollars. when i tried to dispute it, they said since i've had a history of overdrafting in the past 5 years, though with the last one being four years prior to this, it showed i'm irresponsible with using the atm card. so going by my math, i paid about 2847% interest for some donuts and milk. :usacry
