Production Note:  For the sake of authenticity, this episode was recorded over CB Radio.

Direct Download:  http://media.libsyn.com/media/borecast/Borecast28.mp3

SEGMENT ONE:  Santa Better Knock First 'Round These Parts

Doug and Kevin welcome Thor and Jaybo, our guests from the faraway land of Kentucky, as we get rowdy talking about firearms, moonshine, Hillbilly Hijinks, redneck habits, homemade explosives, and the warm glow of animal love.  TRIVIA:  In Kentucky, a hammer is like the towel from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

SEGMENT TWO:  Indefensible! and Listener Comments

(1:03:10)  Indefensible!  Doug gets Clippy with it.

(1:14:35)  Listener Comments.  The $2000 gaming PC myth, the strange tactical planning behind mass gangbang videos, comic books, PSP Go and repurchasing games, bad Christmas stories.

(1:55:00)  NOT REALLY A CONTEST.  We're giving away three copies of Left 4 Dead for Christmas.  Here's our Steam profile page:

Glad to see the show back in action -- I was about to bump the old thread and ask what is going on.

Strangely enough, I actually ended up renting Modern Warfare 2 due to the Borecast-ignited controversy.  Yes, the story is incomprehensible and implausible garbage....but the game hardly feels like it is insulting its players.  It's as stupid as pretty much anything else out there.  Mostly I tried it because I am interested in having cool, unconventional experiences in the first person viewpoint.  The zipline out out of the prison was awesome, as was the entire ending sequence on the raft.  The gameplay wasn't near as bad as I expected, outside of the nightmarish Rio De Janero slum levels where dudes infinitely spawn in all directions all the time constantly.  I love the riot gear enemy dudes -- IW almost managed to build a rudimentary Halo-like scenario in the prison levels with the armored guys, which is astounding considering their enemy and level design is pedestrian at best.  It's a ultimately a mediocre game with some cool bits, but certainly not worth all that righteous indignation.

I also rented Assassin's Creed 2, which also really got the short shrift from Doug.  I hope he's gotten further into it and can get beyond his weird desire to see a more accurate/moving story about Renaissance Italy.  I thought Leonardo going to be far worse with tons of "hur hur" Shakespeare-In-Love type humor, but they seemed pretty reserved using Da Vinci.  But who cares about the story anyway?  I didn't care as I was playing, and care even less now that I'm done.  Some evil dudes were causing trouble and I got to murder them in a vibrant, brilliantly realized recreation of Venice.  Gameplay is far better......missions less repetitive and cut-n-paste....every city has its own unique look and flavor (you're not just moving from one medieval craphole to the next medieval craphole).  There are a couple things from Assassin's Creed 1 that I miss, but as a complete package it's really difficult to prefer the original (so long as you are remembering AC1's shortcomings and not just nostalgizing its best parts).

sounds like every man and his monkey owns a small arsenal of firearms in kentucky.

my euro-cigarillo brain was somewhat bewildered, but I found the slightly blase discussion on guns quite funny and enjoyable in a moribund sort of way.

You have to keep in mind that not everyone in Kentucky is as gun-nutty as I am.  I just really enjoy guns.

AR-15 is definitely a good option. Ammunition is gonna be expensive no matter what kind of assault rifle you get.

On a side note, I actually have the internet and television again after a six month hiatus where I learned how to pay bills like every other adult.

I can now listen to Jason and Thor on the borecast and laugh my ass off. YES.

So, most of the way through the podcast, I will try to not make my post a tl;dr.

First of all, I'm very disappointed to hear Pappy Van Winkle overrated since it's the highest priced bourbon I know of. Variations are sometimes aged almost 25 years. Sadness. Woodford is still the champion, it appears, although there are a few bourbons I want to try from the Beam single batch collection as well as Eagle Rare.

Second of all, this podcast is probably the most hilarious edition ever. Jason cocking his guns every two seconds in response to basically everything is hilarious. I'm sad I couldn't be apart of the Kentucky-bore podcast due to my shitty fucking job.

By the way, if anyone was wondering, all of these stories are true. That's how crazy this state is.

Listened to it all:

- I'm a pro gun liberal.  I just don't care to talk much to other gun nuts because I don't want to hear how we're near the rapture now that a muslin is in office.  I thought about owning a gun someday.

- I used to talk shit about T234 on here.  Sorry about that :(  That was pretty stupid of me to do.

- Interesting names.  In Iowa, it is completely white bread.  My name is probably one of the most generic out there.  In school, there were four others with my name.  At my current job, two.  Good stories though.

- The family computer we all had for five years had Windows Me on it.  I know we had to completely re-install everything at one point.  Other than that, no BSOD but I eventually got used to its buggy charms.

- About my hours of working: yeah, it sucked but at the same time, I thought it was awesome because I think it was either 1.5x or 2x what I normally made.

- Regarding my PC comments, I should have clarified top of the line.  I don't think it had stuff like the latest video cards and all of that but maybe I never gave PC gaming a fair shot.  Someday, I hope I do.  My current new laptop, I made the grave mistake of buying one with Intel Integrated Graphics.

Very good show guys.  One of my favorites!

also its worth noting that that ak probably wasnt cleaned for years, especially if its some little kids gun, if you still think that an ak needs to be cleaned as much as an ar15, then you probably also think an m4 needs to be cleaned as much as an m16, in which case you dont know the first thing about guns

Yeah I just finished watching this ep as well, good stuff. Thor and Jaybo should totally consider guesting again.

I really enjoyed the gun and redneck talk, certainly worlds away from the boring, pompous hipster shit that goes on here in the West coast, though I can relate with the fire pranks and stories. I think playing with fire/fireworks is just something that's genetically ingrained within all teenage boys.

I remember some dude almost burning down our wood shop classroom when he thought fire jelly would be a good substitute for rubber (?) glue. Poor guy got the scare of his life when his project literally blew up in his face while he was burning patterns on it.
