How does it compare to Cameron's previous films?  I mean, would you rate it higher than the first Terminator?

Finally saw it, was pretty entertaining.

It really doesn't do anything new (maybe awesome 3d if you care) but was enjoyable regardless.

Liked how their relationship occurred since it reminded me of typical anime fare and the scene where he

Sucked compared to what? I seen several 3D movies this year and none of them do 3D nearly as well as in Avatar.

I actually don't care, but I would tone down the rhetoric simply because the frequency of the remarks are teetering on the edge of being inappropriate. If it was anyone else, and they were offended, I'd probably knock you out of here for a few days.

As for Joe's comment - it wasn't even meant maliciously, and was followed up by a reply where I agreed with him. I don't think there is anyone who has less faith in my writing than myself, as any good Jew would.

One showing of the critically lampooned kid's movie ended in chaos when a naked man burst into the theater and began masturbating on another male movie-goer. The victim of the crime said later "I was horrified and appalled, but most of that came from what I was seeing on the screen".

So, I got around to seeing it.

It's not bad.  It's even kinda good.  It's definitely one of those movies I'm glad I saw in the theater.

That said, the acting/writing/directing ran from adequate to pretty mediocre.  Obviously the draw was seeing the world and the crazy action sequences, which were easily worth the price of admission.

The irony is that all of the steadfast, rabid hater squad are doing themselves a disservice by not seeing it in the theaters- it's definitely something you want to see on the big screen.  3D was nice.

Developing new cameras and 3D CGI which costs about twice per second as regular CGI as each frame needs to be rendered twice. If they didn't do it in 3D it would've cost a lot less.

Pretty much my opinion. Worth seeing in theaters, not worth seeing until 3D Blu-ray technology is affordable and available.

Next Christmas.

The PlayStation 3 will play Blu-ray 3D out-the-gate, and there are many television sets on the market that are already compatible (here is a list!). All you'll need are the glasses, and if NVIDIA 3D Vision pricing is any indication (and Blu-ray 3D uses the same tech), it'll put you back $200.

Not really that crazy expensive.

I'm surprised at the cost of those LCD monitors that support NVidia glasses. Only around $300, I thought it would be stupid expensive at first. I guess its a good thing they started introducing 120Hz Monitors/TVs a year before 3D hit mainstream.

Yeah, the technology isn't that expensive. Some folks won't necessarily have to buy new televisions, and if you own a PlayStation 3, you won't have to buy a new player. You'll start to see standalone, 3D-compatible Blu-ray players hit the market later next year. And I'm pretty sure you'll see more and more HDTVs with the refresh rate high enough to display the 3D source video.

I really do urge the "haters" of this film to catch it while it is out at the theatres. Even if you goto a cheaper matinee at a RealD screening.

If you are someone who obsesses over movies, you will find a lot to like about it. Cameron does such a great job at pacing that he minimizes the flaws of his movie. The only time I was really looking at my watch was at the end of the movie when the final battle scene (which I felt was flat) goes into Hollywood autopilot.

It's really a visual experience. One that sticks with you much longer than any other effects-laden movie I can think of.

Well damn, color me impressed. I didn't go in with much in the way of expectations due to the questionable trailers, but the moment they started exploring Pandora I was hooked. Kinda reminded me of I how I felt when I watched Jurassic Park for the first time. More entranced by the world being presented on the screen than the story itself. It definitely does have an impressive showcase of special effects.

Facial animations didn't give me a sense of "uncanny valley" like some other CGI actors do. There was a bit of weightiness to the characters and the way the light bounced off everything naturally gave it that extra bit of realism that a lot of these other big budget movies lack.  While the film can get a bit cheesy at times, it's appropriately so. It has pretty much the same amount of light heartedness that's come from Cameron post Aliens. My only major complaint of the film was Horner's forgettable score. This film could've really benefited from some decent themes. But yeah, I'll more than likely see this one more time before it leaves the theatres.

Also found it funny that there was a trailer for Aja's Piranha before the movie. Nice geeky nod right there.

There were a couple points in the movie where the music is some public domain level "jungle drum music". I'm like really? We're on a fantastic alien planet and you are giving me music ripped from the Survivor reality show? Why not some crazy bass-laden, jazz fusion or something. Make it more unique.
