Lots of good stuff this decade in terms of music. Maybe not the stuff mentioned by Billboard, but there are loads of great artists and albums that came out in the Oughts.

Pretty much. I have a real hard time coming up with a Top 10 Albums of the 00's list because there were so many damn good albums that came out.

1. The Wrens -- The Meadowlands
2. Arcade Fire -- Funeral
3. Neko Case and Her Boyfriends -- Furnace Room Lullaby
4. Interpol -- Turn on the Bright Lights
5. Stars -- Heart

I have no idea what would be 6 through 10 since there were so many good albums in this decade.

That Tobacco album is pretty dull.  The BMSR album this year was better, but still not particularly wonderful.  In terms of psych-pop, Embryonic shits all over it.

I opened up the Best of the 2000's: Independent Albums chart, hoping that I might find something good in there...

#1 pick?  WHO LET THE DOGS OUT

#2 pick?  The Eagles

Erase this planet.

First half or so of the decade was dominated by stellar Bonnie Prince Billy offerings for me, second half has been pretty meh aside from the occasional unexpected gem like Bon Iver.

Erase this planet.  :lol

Yeah, it's really quite sad.  If you go back and see the 60s Billboard charts, you see a bunch of Dylan, Beatles, Beach Boys, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, etc etc.  What happened?

That's the great thing about music, we all like different things. Those were my favorites, they're not yours. Big deal.  :)

I would argue with you on The Wrens being mainstream, though.

The funny thing is they're mainstream to people who are into music, but the average person wouldn't know any of them.

Music started out good this decade for me, was kinda boring in 2005-2007, and has been getting good again. That "top 100 music hits" list is fucking AWFUL...  Flo Rida   :yuck Black Eyed Peas-I Gotta Feeling  :yuck

Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Killers - Hot Fuss
Outkast - Stankonia
Santogold - XX

Prob my faves of the big stuff. There was lots of good stuff, even mainstream. White Stripes, Radiohead, PJ Harvey...

Honestly, IMO, there was a ton of good music this decade. And I'm old and stuck in the past!!

A more fun list would be WORST shit of the decade.

1. hinder
2. black eyed peas new shit
3. fall out boy and their genre
4. Soulja Boy Tell Em - anything

It's her best album, even after the whole supposed studio making her re-do it/her not being happy with it or whatever.  There have been better albums from female artists this decade, tho- PJ Harvey and Neko Case immediately spring to mind.

It's amazing. I debate with myself about whether it's her best though - I really like When the Pawn. But hm...usually I come to the conclusion that Extraordinary Machine is the best.

It's like arguing Liquid Swords vs Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. I give Liquid Swords the nod most of the time, but sometimes Cuban Linx reigns supreme for me. Like, during the summer  :zzz
