I love Fever ray, but I'm a huuuuuuuuuge Knife homo

I just think Silent Shout is better. *shrugs*

To clarify on my Embryonic dislike, I understand people's appreciation for it, but it's a little too unlike what drew me to the Flaming Lips in the first place.  It's missing the pop charm of Clouds Taste Metallic, Soft Bulletin, and Yoshimi, that I was impressed with when I first listened to them.  Embryonic felt too droney, without any real peaks or valleys.  It felt, like how teepo described MPP, monotonous.

That list isn't so bad. Pitchfork hate is so distinguished mentally-challenged - sure they can be smug assholes, but the amount of music that they've exposed me to is second to none.

I think of Pitchfork like this: "Sure, they hate on a lot of stuff, but when they really like something it's typically really damn good."

I'm starting to think that hipsters beat Willco up as a kid or something.

Bingo.  I think it's typically worth your while to take notice of the things they heavily praise.  Sure, sometimes they're stinkers (Girls' Album), but they BNM'd a lot of great shit this year and brought relative success to a lot of amazing new bands.

You can believe that if you want, but I listened to MPP on Christmas day last year when it leaked and immediately loved it.  No opinion from a late 20something in a tight jeans and a Too Short t-shirt required.

Although all of the lists proclaiming it number 1 is just more validation for me :smug

Pitchfork's list is predictably wrong.  The only surprises are the few albums they got right.  :yuck

I was discussing with Patel earlier today: I'm really happy that It's Blitz! made the list, because I love the YYYs to no end.  That said, I don't think it should have actually made the list, it's probably their weakest album.   :-\

The whole reason Cymbals Eat Guitars got fairly popular is because of Pitchfork.  And good for them, too, that Cymbals Eat Guitars album was rad as hell.

Ya, you've made your case before, I was only joking. :P  Although, I can't remember if you said you liked Once Beyond Hopelessness or not (which is like the best Christmas album ever).  The two are kinda tied together sonically -- if you haven't listened to it already, I'd give it a shot and then go back to Embryonic one last time and maybe it'll all come together.  Otherwise, fuck it!

I've tried listening to Animal Collective many times, often barely getting through songs. It's just an explosion of sound too muddied for me. I get confused, then I just listen to Pet Sounds

The Pet Sounds-Animal Collective comparisons don't make too much sense to me anymore, after listening to Merriweather so much.  Person Pitch is a much better fit for the comparison, I think.
