Shocking Crime Story: Pot found on Lil Wayne's bus

Quote from: CNN
(CNN) -- Rapper Lil Wayne was detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas on Friday after authorities found marijuana on two of his tour buses.

The marijuana on the buses was detected by a drug dog, said Agent Joe Trevino. The rapper, whose real name is DeWayne Michael Carter, Jr., was among a dozen being detained from his group. They were later released.

Trevino said the buses were en route to Laredo, Texas, from a concert stop in Hidalgo.

The case has been referred to the Brooks County Sheriff's Office.

Calls to Carter's representatives were not immediately returned Friday.

The Louisiana native was the 2008 best-selling artist, with 2.8 million records sold, and is signed to Cash Money Records.

The rapper is scheduled to begin a prison sentence in February stemming from gun charges in New York.

This is shocking news!

a) I don't think the authorities steal them. Since illegal drugs are illegal, and as a citizen or guest of the country where such laws are enforced, authorities will seize all illegal drugs and paraphernalia in said person's possession.

b) They are usually held for evidence until such a time when they are ordered to be destroyed.

c) If you're insinuating that some dark conspiracy is afoot by law enforcement, to steal and use (or sell) drugs from citizens, please elaborate so Boogie can promptly deliver you an online butt whoopin'.

I think it would be ridiculous to say that's never happened, just as I think it would be equally ridiculous to assume that is what happens the vast majority of time. The more likely scenario is, y'know, they are just doing their jobs - like most people.

What do the authorities do with all the drug they steal?

Destroy them.  Usually via incinerator.  After the court no longer requires them for evidence, of course.

My conspiracy consist on them getting high as fuck with part of the seized illegal drugs.

I'm sure it has happened, on occasion.  I would consider it very rare, however.  There tend to be redundant accountability procedures in place to try to avoid such happenings.

Since illegal drugs are illegal

California, Oregon, Maine and a bunch of other states would care to differ.

I was unaware there were states were illegal drugs were not illegal.

There might be states were certain drugs are legal, but not in others - we're not talking about that.

And, by the way, you can still be arrested for possession of marijuana in California - it just depends on the amount. It's not legal, outside of medicinal purposes, despite whether or not law enforcement chooses to arrest individuals for possession of marijuana.

You weren't?  ??? You aren't aware that multiple states have legalized medicinal marijuana while federal law still says they're illegal?

No, we weren't. Considering Lil Wayne got arrested in Texas and not California, where there are no medicinal marijuana laws, it is illegal.

And your own preferences aside, regardless of what state laws say, federal laws always supersede state laws when enforced. And like I said, marijuana isn't even legal in California - you can still be arrested for possession. And that's the state law.

I'm incorrect that federal laws supersede state laws when they are in conflict, especially since state law is usually not even permissible in federal court? Or that that possession of 28.5 grams or more of marijuana is an arrestable offense, and that you could be charged with a misdemeanor for possession of any amount of marijuana?

I'm sure you have your personal opinions on the subject matter, and you may disagree with federal court rulings, and you may even cite California's relative indifference to marijuana possession as the state unofficially declaring it legal - but nothing I said was incorrect.

But federal authorities have also made it clear that their tolerance stops at recreational use. In a memorandum on Oct. 19 outlining the medical marijuana guidelines, Deputy Attorney General David W. Ogden said marijuana was “a dangerous drug, and the illegal distribution and sale of marijuana is a serious crime,” adding that “no state can authorize violations of federal law.”

I'm pretty sure caffeine was considered contraband in the Cooks household.

p.s. I've long been a proponent for the decriminalization, legalization and regulation of marijuana, despite the obnoxious zealotry from High Times subscribers and similar advocates. :shh

Look up California Health & Safety code 11362.5 for a bit of education.

So, you're arguing that medicinal marijuana somehow legalizes marijuana, which according to NORML (whose sole reason for existence is to reform marijuana laws) is still illegal in the state of California?

That's like saying because I have a prescription for Oxycotin, that it's legal to use it for recreational purposes. Guess what? It's not.

And to elaborate, all California Health & Safety code 11362.5 does is prevent patients and caregivers from being penalized by California Health & Safety Code Section 11357, which states:

(b) Except as authorized by law, every person who possesses not more than 28.5 grams of marijuana, other than concentrated cannabis, is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars ($100).

(c) Except as authorized by law, every person who possesses more than 28.5 grams of marijuana, other than concentrated cannabis, shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of not more than six months or by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($500), or by both such fine and imprisonment.

I hae several family members in law enforcement and I can tell you 2 things:

1:MOST of it gets held, a surprising amount gets 'lost' in 'processing'. They do this often.
2: My cousin had a fully stocked bar in house from when he seized booze from folks drinking outside or from underage kids. It was insane.
