i don't know from classics, but i enjoyed my time with it.

Up was merely "meh" at the end of it.  Great opening though, but it didn't sustain entertainment.

Cloudy was awesome from the word "go"

didn't see Fantastic Fox

I saw Coraline 3 times (!) in theaters within 2 weeks, 3D each time, which may be coloring my impressions. I should rewatch it in 2D, where you can actually enjoy the color design. :P

Coraline Blu-ray is a work of art. You should check it out.

I really like it (I mean, I own it), but it's not Selick's best.

That furry Zellweger has nothing to do with you, it was just something that popped into my head. Stop being an easy target dude.

Make it say "Yiff Yiff!" and I'll wear it as an avatar.  I lost a bet with PD so I need something suitably humiliating to wear for a month or so.

I still haven't seen Inglorious Basterds, Star Trek, Up or Avatar yet, so I will refrain from commenting yet... so far my favorite movie was District 9, followed by Where The Wild Things Are and Fantastic Mr Fox. And my least were Transformers 2 (sorry Willco) and Watchmen.

I thought it was disappointing, but at least faithful to the novel, on a first viewing. The second time I could only think, God, what a piece of shit. Stop at the end of the credits and save yourself the heartbreak.

:bow Hurt Locker

First time I saw it in the theater this summer and it was a very stressful viewing experience. I saw it again a few weeks ago when the film society at the university had it for a weekend. It wasn't quite as effective upon second viewing since it loses alot of the suspense, but it was still great. My friend, who is an Iraq war veteran, said that the film was a pretty accurate depiction of soldiers in EOD.

That's all I can list that I think is truly great, I haven't seen Hurt Locker, District 9, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc.

I barely saw any movies this year.  I thought this was a bad year for movies although I have yet to watch The Hurt Locker (wasn't playing anywhere near me in its heyday) and The Hangover.  I might eventually crack and watch Avatar but I have no strong urge to see it at the moment.

I'm currently stuck in Omaha as well at the moment.  I agree, the theaters here suck.

Oh man, the Health Care Bill commercials out here in Nebraska are INSANE. They make up at least 90% of all the ads I've seen. We don't get them back in Washington since we're uber liberal land and don't need any coercing.

Not sure I saw 10 movies this year.  Let's see:

Favourite of the Year:

1. The Hangover
2. District 9
3. Star Trek
4. Inglourious basterds
5. Zombieland

Kinda liked:
Crank: High Voltage

Saw but didn't really like:
Transformers 2
Couples Retreat

So ya, guess I only caught 8 '09 releases this year.

An Education
500 Days of Summer
In the Loop
Inglourious Basterds
Up in the Air
The Messenger
Avatar
A Serious Man
Thirst

I didn't really like Up all that much, which is weird cause I'm a huge Pixar fan. Maybe it needs another viewing. The first 10 minutes are brilliant though.

The brilliance of the first 10 minutes is what makes the majority of the film disappointing. One day they'll have the balls to do a whole film like that, without the funny animal hijinks, and it'll be genuinely amazing. I still loved UP but it really is just a hint as to what they might achieve once they free themselves of the 'we have to make CARTOONS' mindset.

2. Moon

That's actually it, all the other movies I saw this year weren't worth rating. i liked a lot of them (Up, Star Trek, The Road, District 9) but they were also disappointing in their own ways. These are the only two movies I think that are worth seeking out on DVD.

What. The. Fuck. Dude.

Seriously, what the fuck?

The Meryl Streep parts were pretty damn good, but every time Amy Adams showed up on screen the film was horrible. Her portions were so horrible that the entire film is trash.

Poor Amy Adams, she was brilliant in Junebug but is now stuck in crappy roles.

I will openly admit that the Julia Child/Meryl Streep portions are delightful. The rest of the film is awful.

They should've adapted My Life in France as it's own film and said "fuck it" to Julie and Julia.
