I thought people posting the female avatar lady smiling gif on gaf was bad, but this is on another level of creepy.

ok, I'm going to have trouble sleeping if I keep reading this. this is fucked up.

slowdowns or not i am installing, it pains me to even hear my xbox install games let alone play them uninstalled
I'm going to install it.

Bayonetta is the most extreme recent example of anecdotal impressions being all over the place. You can't trust anyone's technical impressions because they are either brain dead or pushing a system warrior agenda.

I thought it may have been a little better uninstalled, but it could've been placebo.  but being able to hear myself think is better than having a jet engine going for some slightly better framerate.  But bayonetta's like a shmup, sometimes you need that framedrop to survive :lol

You guys didn't know Amir0x's real name? He's always been rather upfront about it, especially during that brief period when he was reviewing games for some site.

EDIT:
Hell, I know EB should know this as you guys have had fun with it before: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9077082

We've been through this. I don't buy into his supposed drug experience. For one, he wouldn't be tubby tubsworth if he was the clubbing, amphetamine munching dude he claimed to be. Also, every drug advice thing I've seen him write has looked like it was airlifted from an Erowid FAQ. Not that I know why someone would make that kind of shit up, and I really don't have anything against Amir0x, but I don't buy it.

I think I found a Youtube of GAF celebrity JoshuaJSlone.  I could be wrong, though!

I think so.  Just from the little tidbits I keep about everyone between here and gaf (but only in my head)

JoshuaJSlone:

is over 300 pounds, I remember that from a wii fit thread

likes some excitetruck, which he is playing in that video with a custom soundtrack

uses a long haired fat dude in his avatar at times which I assume is him

has talked about wanting to put the wiimote in a large "wheel" to see how it would work with certain wii games (warioware, etc)

Good find.

edit:  I'm going to go ahead and admit I found something I shouldn't have at the quarter to three forums which would constitute as snooping.  I acknowledge I have some problems.

edit: son of a bitch, clicking on the youtube vid brings it to JoshuaJSlone's page. I'm dumb.  >:(

Colon stuff from 2002:
Why didn't they improve the graphics even a little?
Why didn't they improve Animal Crossing's graphics?
Super Mario Sunshine doesn't seem like Mario.
Nintendo is barely doing better with 3rd parties on GCN than on N64.

NEW Common Responses
Nintendo will release a new Game Boy in 2007.
Having two screens is pointless.
Why not just release the Revolution as an expansion for GameCube?
Why New Super Mario Bros.?
The console can't be as cheap as the handheld.
Why do Virtual Console games appear stretched in widescreen mode?
Why didn't Nintendo spend just a little more to make the Wii HD?
Wii will seem even further behind graphically in 3 years.
Nintendo held back portable gaming technology.
PSP was beating DS until DS made a comeback.
Is Wii more powerful than Xbox?
Wii price drops won't make a big difference.
Nintendo needs to make real games on Wii.
Is Nintendo likely to be the first to introduce a next-gen console?

Quote from: Nintendo will release a new Game Boy in 2007.

2006-02-08

A main reason given for a new Game Boy being sensible in ~2007 is a comparison to the current reality of both GBA and DS doing decently. From that it is extrapolated that DS and newGB could have a similar relationship. I find this to be a flawed way of looking at things, though.

As is, Game Boy Advance is where the publisher goes if they've got a simpler 2D game that won't benefit from the DS's increased power, resolution, extra screen, microphone, touch screen, or wifi; and they want it to reach a larger possible audience. A consumer would pick a GBA over a DS if they wanted something cheap and small. Other than the GBA link port, DS is a pretty clear superset of GBA.

But what would the situation be with a DS as the value console and a newGB as the upscale one? Assuming the newGB is like the GBA and PSP, it would essentially have a subset of DS's capabilities, but with better graphics and sound. Playing DS on newGB wouldn't be feasible. Neither machine would be a clear improvement upon the other. If I'm a publisher with a "simple" game (say an N64/PS1 port), where do I put it? On the DS where there are more input options and an existing userbase, or the newGB where there are graphics capabilities ~3 years more advanced, and maybe a more proper analog control? As a consumer, there would no longer be one basic cheap machine to choose... you'd either pick the basic or the cheap machine.

Before DS's release I thought things like New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart DS seemed pretty poor ideas for a company really serious about having three pillars. If DS had stuck to only things that really took advantage of its touch screen, a newGB with a more oldstyle screen/control setup wouldn't really create a conflict. But for better or worse, DS has software of all types, and isn't just the touch screen machine. Since the new features have proved more of a benefit than a detriment to DS, I don't know why Nintendo wouldn't be happy to just continue on with their next machine being an improvement upon the DS, rather than going back to the GBA/PSP way.

As is, the only reason they've needed to try and sustain two handhelds for so long is because competition from Sony forced the DS to market earlier than they would've released a new portable, and dumping support from a 3.5 year old machine to put all the eggs into the basket of the weird new machine would've been stupid. If it weren't for PSP they surely wouldn't have wanted to have only 3.5 years between their handhelds, and without some other external stimulus they won't want to again. Yes, it can be pointed out that the time difference from GB Color to GB Advance was similarly small... but I really think that's another very unique circumstance. GB Color was a crazy late half-update to 9 year old hardware, with many of its games made to still work on the original Game Boy. GBA was just the universe righting itself.

In 2004 and early 2005, talk of a new GB in 2007 was believable as a DS backup plan. In 2006 it's silly. DS made it.

Groundbreaking stuff.

For some people's complaints about Nintendo not focusing on "real" games enough, it seems they've got more than they did with GamCube, even before we know what they'll show at E3. For GameCube I think I've got all NOA-released titles for 2001 and 2002. For Wii I've listed titles with 2007 NOA release dates.

Series showing up on both; a wash
Mario Party 4   Mario Party 8
Metroid Prime   Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Super Mario Sunshine   Super Mario Galaxy
2 traditional   2 traditional
1 nontraditional   1 nontraditional

GameCube vs Wii
Animal Crossing   Battalion Wars 2
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem   Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
Luigi's Mansion   Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse   Excite Truck
NBA Courtside 2002   Fire Emblem
Pikmin   The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Star Fox Adventures   Mario Strikers Charged
Super Smash Bros. Melee   Pokémon Battle Revolution
Wave Race: Blue Storm   Super Paper Mario
   WarioWare: Smooth Moves
   Wii Play
   Wii Sports
7 traditional   8 traditional
2 nontraditional   4 nontraditional

Total
GameCube   Wii
9 traditional   10 traditional
3 nontraditional   5 nontraditional

Italicizing those titles that frequently get derided for being nongames, kiddy games, or minigame fests by the hardcore, Wii leads GameCube on both counts.
Yearly Comparisons

I above combined things in 2001+2002 and 2006+2007 to talk about overall statistics, but here's how things would be split between years and not sticking series showing up on both into a separate category.

yeah, those are some weird areolae.   On close inspection, they don't look unnatural.  It doesn't look like make-up either.  Pale girls can have areolae like that, so I'm guessing it's either a fake tan or just a good ol' genetic defect.  Maybe it's a result of areola repigmentation:
http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache%3AJw8YfkcEKr8J%3Awww.tattoo-ins.com%2Fdownload%2Farticles%2Fareola_repigmentation_when_is_it_a_good_idea.pdf+white+areola&hl=en&gl=us&sig=AHIEtbQTn1lB5tey9GYrq7Ydtvx_uVm0Yg&pli=1

On a side note, in my research, I learned that bumps on areola are called montgomery glands.  and any time you need someone to research boobs, nipples, vaginas, anything like that, just let me know.  I volunteer.

Prank on Belgian quiz show. (it's subtitled in english)

The quiz has been removed after a host of the best satirical show on Belgium's state TV entered a LIVE quiz on the rival commercial TV-station. He ridiculed the program "Puzzeltijd"(which was -according to Henk- known for its dull/boring candidates), and succeeded, because the quiz was broadcasted "live", and Henk wasn't known yet, at the time he entered the quiz. Henk's program was "Zonde van de zendtijd", which means more or less "Wasting broadcasting-time"

Well, it has practical implications for my own life, anyway. :P

And to me, it matters, because if you let shitty ideas like those go, the next time somebody makes a thread where the police killed somebody who came at them with a knife, the GAFtards will be all "why didn't they just fire a warning shot or shoot him in the leg like they do in civilized Yurop?"  :smug

Fuck but I'm tired of dealing with morons like Veins.  I know, I know, "just don't read the effing thread then"

Thank God I don't police in some of those European countries, though.  Shoot for the leg?  Fucking hell.

Dunno if you saw my post there Boogie, Im late to the discussion:

Quote
The Netherlands ranks third behind the USA and Canada in a comparative case study about lethal police shootings (between 9 western countries). It has 3 lethal shootings per year (300 in the USA) with a population of 16 million (thats 1 death per 5 millions civilians, 1 on 1 in the USA). But where in the US there is one police officer killed for every 4 civilians, its only 1 per 9 in the Netherlands.

In total there are 50 to 100 incidents a year where police fire shots, aprroximately 17 people get hit every year of which 3 die. Police officers are trained to shoot below the belt, but the probable cause of all the lethal incidents is lack of firearm training and the amount of incidents in which officers are allowed to pull their firearm.

The safest country in the study is Great Britain where only 1 civilian in 27 million dies by police bullets. In the UK police patrol without guns, but this doesnt seem to influence the death rate because in countries like Ireland and Norway where police also don't carry firearms the death rates are much higher.

Ya, just caught it now.

Dude, I get it.... but almost 4 pages of discussion where every post is a goddamn book? It's seriously boring when I even scroll past those posts and see words like 'ricochet' and 'limbs' and 'warning shot' stick out for the 69th time.

Warning shots?  If someone fired a warning shot and I had the chance to shoot them I would.  I can't imagine criminals being different.

I'm assuming that warning shots are used only in incidents with knives.

Even still, assuming that the suspect is well out of range, if the suspect is rational, he should get the hint at "POLICE, DROP THE KNIFE!" when the officer's gun is pointed at him.  If the dude doesn't drop the knife when I point my gun at him, what difference is a shot into the ground going to make to make him change his mind?

Because the distinguished mentally-challenged fellows on GAF are too stupid to get the point, and I'm too stupid to realize that they're not going to understand or change their minds if only I keep at it.  :-\

They should drop this discussion about warning shots and law enforcement rules and continue talking about religion acting like they know anything about it.

Well not that many people have guns here (including criminals) and if they are suspect of having a gun or being dangerous (in the case of a high profile arrest) a special Arrest Unit is send in.

Ya, and that's probably the difference that allows for these policies.  Simply a lower rate of violent crime and less of a gun culture.

Quote
Those warning shots are in cases when there are knives in play or when the police is getting cornered and feels at danger. I'm guessing hearing a shot can have a sobering effect.

Ya, I still can't abide it though.  If I have to fire my gun, I have to accept that it's a life or death situation, and accept the chances that the bullet that leaves my firearm might kill someone.  Given that, I'm aiming my gun at centre of mass to make as sure as I can that my rounds hit the target.  And I'm not aiming at vital areas which necessarily comparatively risk my safety for the benefit of the suspect I'm shooting at.  Knives are deadly weapons too.

In that thread, Veins and others are going "ya, but I'm sure the risk of hitting an innocent bystander with a limb shot or warning shot isn't that great".  Well of course, he can say that.  It's an academic discussion to him.  His ass isn't on the line.  Mine is, and policing isn't about taking chances and playing the odds when it comes to officer and public safety.

That's essentially the bottom line for me.

I played the Bayonetta demo but it didn't click with me. Felt like the game was doing more playing around than I was. I like to have a certain amount of control and it didn't give it to me. But the tits distracted me enough to make it through.

PS3 or 360 version?

Didn't we go over this with the Gamecube?

So tired of GAF analysts acting like they know more than the business people who actually make decisions. GAFers are still using RE4 as an exampe of a third party mature title that proves they can sell on the Wii.

the bolded quotes all over about how the game is a platformer is like some dewey defeats truman shit.  and honestly, I was just as hyped as PantherLotus for that game after they showed the first trailer.  So much potential wasted.

I'm glad this guy has it all figured out. Sad no one did it before. I guess for a new startup like Sega, they're completely green in the field and never dealt with game making or advertising before.

Are you implying that publishers haven't shown themselves to be completely distinguished mentally-challenged? Especially Sega? Let's not forget their Xbox strategy once going third party.

Sega is dumb. But are third party "mature" titles failing on the Wii because of dumb decisions in general? I don't think so.

In terms of Sega though, The Conduit was supposed to be a big Wii shooter. It got decent reviews and had Wii owners salivating. It bombed because it catered to a niche group of Wii owners - mature shooter fans. Remember all the talk about the Wii revolutionizing the FPS? lol

If you want to make money on the Wii you better make a Wii Sports rip off, or a party game, or an exercise game cheaper than Wii Fit.
