Nomura helps produce and supply games that differentiate each other from the next and he fully supports unique games. The World Ends With You for instance is a totally different type of game. Although I'm not the biggest fan of it, so is Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. I think Nomura has a lot to offer to Square and he actually has balls compared to his peers.

Also, I can't think of any developer in the industry who listens to fan feedback as much as Nomura. If fans don't like something in one of his games, he'll see to it that it's fixed in a later entry or in the form of a re-release.

Sure he can't write a story worth shit, but I respect the guy as a game developer.

It depends for me. I used to really like Nomura as a character designer. FF7, FF8, FF10, Parasite Eve, Musashi all have great character designs. But ever since The Bouncer and Kingdom Hearts, his design style has mostly changed and gotten worse and worse. I think that's because with those games, particularly Kingdom Hearts, he wasn't just a character designer but also the writer, producer, director;etc. So less time spent on making art = lower quality artwork.

That said, his Versus XIII designs seem more in line with his psx-era designs: Stylish characters but not annoyingly so. Most of the characters we've seen so far just wear simple suits. His XIII designs though...

While I think some designs in FF10 are wtf (namely Lulu's, Tidus' hood jacket vest thingy wtf) I think others are pretty good.

Like Yuna's for instance.

I like the art in FF10, and the character designs helped flesh out the world.

I actually like Nomura a lot. As a character designer & as a game designer. Hell I even enjoy his retardedly complex and silly stories because they're more interesting when playing than simple straightforward ones. I've dug every game he's produced, and Versus should be great.

I dig him as a character designer, when he actually wants to design good stuff again. So the occasional good design like Zazh in FF13 is cool. But then, other times, we get people in black hoods.

I also like how he has a hard on for modern day fashion. Aside from Kaneko and in many ways Soejima, Nomura is basically the only jrpg character designer I can think of that prefers characters to be based in modern day clothing and fashion.
