No childhood trauma, I assure you. It's just irritating to have the word thrown out anytime you mention liking anything Japanese. I understand having a negative opinion of people who deify a particular culture over others, but generally the word seems to be used for anyone who likes the culture at all, regardless of whether or not they're deifying it. It would be like if anytime you mentioned you liked anything from America someone went "lolol americunt". Sure, it's sometimes funny, but generally speaking, it ruins discussion because it treats people as broad stereotypes instead of individuals. It certainly did a fine fucking job of it in the gaming discussion here.
This is the wrong audience to try to tell that to, I understand, as you guys aren't really looking for any serious discussion 99% of the time.
oh, chipper up. i am an unabashed -- well, maybe mildly abashed -- nerdfag for japanese games, and if folks wanna question my amerimasculinity over it, so be it! personally, most "weeaboos" are insecure and obsessive enough to make the collateral damage worthwhile. have you seen these people? yikes! maybe it's just my long-standing hatred of earnestness when wed to the trivial. i dunno!
that said, you have a point, but i have a REALLY hard time maintaining a serious dialogue about vidjagames these days -- even when i'm ranting, i am still thinking "lol videogames" and that will pervade ANY discussion i have, either here or on gaf. at some point, i lost all gravity when it comes to this hobby. they're great, disposable, largely goofy but almost never meaningful fun.
