« on: December 25, 2009, 10:40:19 AM »
What did you get for Christmas? :hyper :hyper :hyper

My four-person family exchanged 12 cookbooks this year. :lol I got:

I also got The Strain, by Guillermo del Toro and the guy who actually wrote it, and a container of Ridleys Gunpowder Mustard :drool

What'd you get? And MERRY CHRISTMAS!

-Lots of books including a Philip K. Dick box set, an Updike collection, the Dark Tower series, an Oliver Sacks book, and a fitting stocking stuffer for any consummate atheist.

-Also games. The highlights: Bioshock, Episodes From Liberty City, and Fallout 3 GOTY Edition :hyper :hyper :hyper

-Probably about $100 in gift cards

-Computer chair (yes, the one that I already tarnished with splooge)

No movies or TV or (especially) music because I'm a dirty, unscrupulous pirate

My wife and I don't 'usually echange gift since we have so many others to buy for. Our xmas is when the tax rebate arrives. I'm heading to my dad's shortly and will probably get some pants. Then off to the in-laws where I'm sure to get gloves and a scarf or a gift card to Lowes.

I got a bunch of stuff, but the standout was a new monitor (dell 2209wa) that, other than being a generally kickass monitor (IPS and can do 76 hz), had a stand that lets me easily turn it on the side.  Gonna play so many mame shooters in tate mode.

If you've actually followed my post history, I'm not much of anything. While both my father and my mother were Jewish, each have gone on to remarry (twice, in some cases) those belonging to separate Christian denominations. The end result is that I grew up around people of both faiths, and holidays have become largely secular.

My father's family, which is predominantly Jewish (my mother converted), doesn't even really celebrate Hannukah. It now usually boils down to one night out of the eight where we get together and celebrate the heritage and exchange small gifts. Since there are a ton of cousins, we all draw names, so we don't buy gifts for the whole family.

Then most of us celebrate Christmas - I get to celebrate it twice. Once with my father and once with my mother. My mother didn't really have to give me much of anything, because she is really giving me a car (I'm buying it for practically nothing).

-socks
-underwear
-bottle stoppers from my dad
-$150

As an added bonus, "$20 Nacho Girl" stayed at my house for Christmas.  I tried avoiding my house, just to be out of the situation, but my mother called my crying saying I was ruining her christmas.  So I made nice and started talking to her again as to not break my mother's heart.  Sigh.  I guess trading my own happiness for my mothers is a worthy trade.
