I imagine that's a tumbleweed issue that Sony, Microsoft, as well as a host of developers, would like to have.

Nintendo Announces Healthy Holiday Sales Figures

As everyone looks ahead to the possibilities in store for 2010, Nintendo of America is looking to extend the glow of the holidays with some fresh December sales information. The following items were announced by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in Japan:

* Although official U.S. sales data for December and all of 2009 will be announced by the NPD Group on Jan. 14, it appears that U.S. consumers responded enthusiastically to Nintendo’s Wii™ home console in December. Nintendo estimates that December sales in the United States will exceed 3 million units.
* Nintendo estimates that the portable Nintendo DS™ lineup, including the Nintendo DSi™ video game system, set a new all-time calendar-year U.S. sales record for any console or hand-held system.
* Nintendo software also continued to perform well. Although the NPD Group will provide the full sales numbers for each game, Nintendo estimates that lifetime U.S. sales of New Super Mario Bros.™ Wii are approaching 4 million. The game, which is the first Super Mario Bros. game to include simultaneous four-player action, launched in the United States on Nov. 15.

“The millions of people who bought Nintendo hardware during the holidays can look forward to enjoying great games on those systems now and in the future,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for Nintendo DS, and Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii are all currently providing Nintendo fans with amazing experiences and fun adventures for the whole family.”

Damn, those console numbers beat Sony's best month and best year record, doesn't it? Interesting. But of course, sales this generation don't matter.  :lol

Observe. This is how the butthurt HD fanboys on this forum react to the cold backhand of reality. Even Administrators in this community do no hesitate to resort to starting shitty threads (i.e., this one) with no legitimate content whatsoever for the exception of a single image to represent his growing fanboy frustration. Now, I might be an unapologetic Nintendo fan and I'll play the sales game from time to time to help offset the other trivial rhetoric that continues to be spewed here by members like TFS, but even I have the decency and respect to back up my argument with SOME work.  :lol

I like when they have to compete. Token titles, sure, but I was really disappointed with every Animal Crossing after the GameCube one I obsessed over because they all took steps backwards and didn't challenge themselves. (Harvest Moon fell into that same problem. Weak ass ports.)

I kept getting excited for big releases, holding out hope. Hell, I waited in line at midnight to get Brawl. But then the shit just falls after that, like Excitebots being at $5 already. (I freaked when I saw the trailer for it. Not in a good way.)

They had the strongest launch ever and then nothing really matched up with it. Kinda like the Dreamcast, but kept on life support by puppy games. I'd probably have more respect for the Wii if it failed and died out, rather than continually seeing new releases I don't give a shit about.

Thankfully I've learned to adapt, as many people have. I don't feel like I'm losing out. Hell, the Steam sale will keep me busy until summer.

The one-IP-per-console rule just seems to ruin it for me. It pretty much means we won't see a new Animal Crossing or fixed SSBM. It also seems we're stuck with the one Mario Party game which we're all tired of.

Weren't you one of the three assholes that claimed sales didn't matter during the N64 AND GameCube era? Congratulations, you've finally got a win after two generations by pandering to the lowest common denominator (idiots) and then casual gamers. Now we wait to see if you can smash the PS2's sales record WITHOUT releasing a hardware revision that has additional features.

I surely don't give a shit about sales but I do give a shit about games and during my time with the wii, only one game out of the many that I bought was any good (Super Mario Galaxy, and it was great). On the other hand, with the 360, EVERY game I bought or played was great.

Quite a tall order there, Mr. Green! You mean it isn't enough that Wii is selling at this pace without the benefit of a DVD movie player to pad its sales (like the PS2) or a "Slim" hardware revision (again, like the PS2, which you've failed to mention) OR the benefit of a year's head start from its two main business and sales competitors??? Wow, guess the Wii sales do look pretty underwhelming considering the disadvantages the PS2 had to suffer in comparison!

My thoughts exactly! AC was awesome on the GC (fuck the haters) but every version afterwards has sucked balls. Must have been the NES games.

I kept getting excited for big releases, holding out hope. Hell, I waited in line at midnight to get Brawl. But then the shit just falls after that, like Excitebots being at $5 already. (I freaked when I saw the trailer for it. Not in a good way.)

From what little I played of Excitebots, it's definitely worth $5 (I would've paid full retail for it!)

They had the strongest launch ever and then nothing really matched up with it. Kinda like the Dreamcast, but kept on life support by puppy games. I'd probably have more respect for the Wii if it failed and died out, rather than continually seeing new releases I don't give a shit about.

Yeah but that's the thing: sure, these new releases may not offer much as far as you're concerned, but there are people who usually wouldn't give a shit about gaming that ARE excited about what the Wii has to offer. I'm sure that's why fanbois are so upset about Wii's success; somehow, in their misguided manchild brains, they think that the Wii's popularity means that they won't get their yearly sports sim / racing / FPS fix.

Thankfully I've learned to adapt, as many people have. I don't feel like I'm losing out. Hell, the Steam sale will keep me busy until summer.

I would NOT want to have just a Wii this generation. It's best when paired with a 360 or even an (ugh) PS3.

The one-IP-per-console rule just seems to ruin it for me. It pretty much means we won't see a new Animal Crossing or fixed SSBM. It also seems we're stuck with the one Mario Party game which we're all tired of.

Man, fuck Mario Party. Have you tried Boom Blox?

My thoughts exactly! AC was awesome on the GC (fuck the haters) but every version afterwards has sucked balls. Must have been the NES games.

It wasn't that. It was the paring down of the series to be simpler and easier to digest. To make online viable for all regions, they took out all real holidays and just made generic crap, because they were lazy. They got rid of the Igloos in January, the Halloween Jack, Reindeer Xmas and the stealing shit from the Thanksgiving dinner. They also took out that big tree entirely and made each world smaller. Instead of 4 houses, there was just 1, got rid of storage boxes for the mail (I think), and even the ability to sell or display items in front of your house. The lost and found police station got severely neutered. I could go on, but nearly every change ruined the game on the DS, outside of friends being able to visit you while you were playing. Hell, THEY TOOK OUT THE ISLAND.

Then the Wii version just stuck all the new DS stuff in a little city, added voice chat and called it a day. Least inspired sequel ever. (Yes, I know the GameCube version was an up-port of the n64 one. The American was even an improvement over Japan's. Japan later got a second release on the GameCube with America's updates)

From what little I played of Excitebots, it's definitely worth $5 (I would've paid full retail for it!)
Yeah. I'll buy it soon enough, but for a sequel it looks underwhelming and sounds like just more of the same.

Man, fuck Mario Party. Have you tried Boom Blox?
Mario Party is a very consistent laid back game. Boom Blox is good, but it's more active. (I went for an interview at EA to be on that team.) Mario Party is great when you have friends over and want to eat pizza while you play games.

Oh the "group think" complaint. Yeah, sure, nice try. If group think was really occuring here then you wouldn't be here objecting, now would you? Just because people agree doesn't mean its group think and suggesting such is just an attempt to deevaluate the people's opinions. The only place I've seen true group think occur on EB really has been regarding GAF, but that's understandable. Seriously, try something else to defend your opinions other than sad allegations of group think and fallacies  ::)

And this thread was never about sales until Nintendosbooger brought it up in a sad appeal to popularity since he couldn't bother (manage?) arguing in favor of Nintendo otherwise.

Corny is right, of course.  We get together in our secret Icon lair and plan out all of this in advance, because we're EVIL or something.  It couldn't genuinely be that none of us are impressed by Nintendo's offerings for the Wii.  No, a far reaching malevolent conspiracy to make fun of probable bedwetters is more likely.

Totally.  It's all an evil conspiracy.  Clearly we hate the Wii -even though a number of us own it/have owned it/will own it again- and hate its games -even though there's plenty of praise/discussion for games like Super Mario Galaxy, NSMB Wii, Muramasa, HoTD Overkill, Castlevania ReBirth, Trauma Center, etc.-

I'm just a gamer too -one that's been doing this shit since the Atari 5200- who owns all of the current consoles and doesn't give a shit one way or the other.  It's Nintendosbooger's ridiculous posts and attacks on members that's getting him ridiculed.  There's no hivemind going on here.  Why are you so butthurt?

I'm not the one dogpiling on the guy with the silly handle, dude.

And ooooh, 5200? I was neglecting that shit for the Colecovision.

Finally, if you don't give a shit one way or another, then why post in the thread?

EB isn't the only place that dislikes the Wii. All gaming forums across the world hate on it. Even GAF hates on it, but you can't say anything bad about it because Dragona will ban your ass.

The Wii just fails as a gaming console. It's just a very successful glorified toy and a nice device to lure kids to your home.

Fuck being threatened, I just hate the system for what it is. I liked the Gamecube, and I want Mario and Zelda in glorious awesome power HD. Instead I'm being asked to overlook the shitness of the system and just appreciate the waggle gameplay, and for some reason I'm also supposed to be dazzled by the ability for shit to appeal to a new audience. That's grand for Nintendo, but it's doing jack shit for the games I'd possibly give a shit about.

Also, it's fun to harass Nintendo fans. They finally got what they wanted, sales dominance. But it came by way of shitty hardware, grandma appeal and goofy peripherals. Good one.

I think this is just the crux of everything. God (and Prole) help me, I love my Wii for what it is (a console for retro/quirky stuff + that occasional "okay" Nintendo title) but Nintendo fans across the board come off as the most defensive and childish of the console fanboys, only rivaled by most of the Sony babies over at GAF. It's just so fun to fuck with them.

ok being serious here,i like the wii,i think people exagerate when they express their disdain for the wii but it's not like it's totaly unjustified,i mean the thing is so full of shovelware or game that are just disappointing

i do feel a bit annoyed at some people stance but ehy if bore is okay with me throwing fit at random games i guess i should be okay if bore throws a fit at the wii, besides as someone said most people here own a wii and do enjoy the good games it has so i'm not really sure who's serious here (insert joker gif) especialy since this thread was done in parody

cheers  :)

I'm glad to see that Nintendo means so much of you that there's not a thread about it you aren't a part of.

It's so fun to be a douche on the internet! Very edgy, especially since nobody else is doing it.

The reason why these jilted women feel threatened is because they fear that Sony and Microsoft will follow Nintendo's successful business pattern, with the upcoming Natal and Gem. While both will make a sorry attempt to copy Nintendo's model (at which point, these transparent idiots will discover a newfound interest in the concept altogether, no doubt), they can rest assured that neither will be successful in this regard and both will reassume their respected roles as mere afterthoughts this generation.

One thing I can agree with is that the HD twins have some interesting games that are not readily available on the Wii at the moment, and I will reiterate my earlier promise to get one of the two machines once they shave $75-$100 from their current price tags.

You're more like Nintendo's Chris Crocker.

Sure, why not? While an underpowered shit system based on curious controls and little other value is of course a piece of shit, there's nothing wrong with add-on devices to excellent systems; power and waggle, that could be alright. And even if it isn't, the systems are still awesome, as opposed to the critically shitty Wii platform. Hell, maybe we can finally get that elusive first person shooter enhanced by 3d pointer tech. Good looks and wacky controls, maybe that's fun.
