Yeah, the corn subsidies and ethanol production can be really fucked up and do need some overhaul but fat chance of that happening. There's too much lobbying money being thrown around to prevent that even though some things, like ethanol, have absolutely no beneficial use to society. I assume that corn syrup isn't as popular in Mexico being that a lot of the sucrose sodas are bottled there, right? The thing is that while there is a clear correlation obesity and corn syrup consumption, there is also a clear correlation between obesity and fast food consumption, caloric intake, and lack of exercise. Why people jump on fructose specifically when most obese people had to make a slew of other distinguished mentally-challenged diet decisions never makes sense to me.
