What terrible idea will ruin the new Zelda game?
« on: January 06, 2010, 02:36:33 PM »
Nintendo has announced a new Zelda game wil lbe released for the Wii this year, and that can mean only one thing: disappointment!

What horrible new gameplay system will ruin the franchise this time? Remember, everyone in the world except Nintendo knows what makes a Zelda game great, so the team is going to really have to stretch to fuck this one up. Fortunately, history shows they're up to it!

Recent Zelda games have shown a marked increase in the amount of time spent tediously travelling from one end of the world to another, with Spirit Tracks being the worst yet. I'd imagine that the Wii Zelda game will have some sort of bus/taxi component requiring you to slowly ferry NPCs from one end of Hyrule to another before you can enter the next dungeon.

Miyamoto has also been talking up how much he enjoys measuring things lately, which can only mean a pointer-based minigame involving the four homosexual carpenters. With Tingle as their foreman, no doubt!

I also see stealth-based sections involving Princess Zelda in the franchise's future.

I'm pumped, my Wii's pumped - how about you guys?

Flight?

Ooh, that's a good one. Forcing you to hold the Wii controller like a paper airplane and rotate it as Link soars tediously through the air-pirate filled skies above Hyrule would be both unfun and completely in character with Nintendo's plans for the franchise.

Before I start, let me mention that I predicted the 2010 Zelda before this news broke out: http://www.evilbore.com/forum/index.php?topic=32924.0

Anyway, Zelda Wii will be the truth. It won't be a waggle nightmare that every one predicts, especially since Nintendo, back in 2007, once criticized developers for adding unnecessary waggle functions to their games. The Wii mote and Wii chuck are supposed to supplement the traditional control scheme, not replace it or even complement it, especially for hardcore games like Zelda. Nintendo knows this, and as sad as it is for me to admit this, Zelda Wii will beat out Mario Galaxy 2 for GOTY.

This will be like the first 18 months of the Wii all over again, with New Super Mario Brothers Wii, Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii, Sin & Punishment 2, Endless Ocean 2, and Metroid: Other M all coming out within a tight window. 2010 was already slated to be a great year for the Wii, and this news just makes it all the better.

On the topic of Zelda Wii, I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. A departure from the Link to the Past/Orcarina of Time template is precisely what the doctor called for. There should be more content in the overworld, not just empty landscape punctuated by annoying cannon fodder enemies. The battle system should be improved, with some new items mixed in with some old ones (ala NSMBWii), but I'm not worried about this.

Personally, I'm all for keeping the storyline relatively dark on the same level as TP, but richer with more fleshed out opponents. Ganon was the only opponent that was given the spotlight. If Nintendo could take a page from their Fire Emblem games and create an assortment of memorable secondary baddies, that would catapult the Zelda series to a whole new level. With the success of NSMBWii, I think Nintendo should maintain the tone and atmosphere set by TP, and possibly create another mainline series for the casual player (possibly a New Legend of Zelda Wii).

it has a local bus system

with npcs randomly requesting stops

you can get off and explore the stop for a bit and maybe collect some stuff, but then you have to wait 10 real time minutes for the next bus to arrive

20 minutes if it's not rush hour

Most people agree that the overworld needs to be updated; being empty and boring after all these years would be another disaster.

Legend of Zeruda:  Pressure Cooker, where you'll use the balance board to measure out the appropriate amount of ingredients for Link to toss into a pot, then use your waggle stick to pretend stir.  No matter what you do, your dish ends up just fine, same as Wii Music.

Personally, I'm hoping they shit on the fans again like they did with Wind Waker and give us something totally new, something that doesn't play anything like the previous Zelda games.

The only thing different about Wind Waker was the cel-shading. I thought it played just like Ocarina and Majora's Mask.

Great game, though. Highly underrated.

yeah, and in general the Wii has fewer gimmicks than the DS that Nintendo needs to use.  If it is using motion plus, at least it won't have the broken regular Wii remote problems, and the only other foreseeable issues would be requiring nunchuck waggling or the speaker.  I'm pretty jazzed to see how it will turn out.

LINK'S CROSSBOW TRAINING II: THE LEGEND OF THE MUSICAL CROSSBOW

*Now with Motion Plus controls!

Sadly, that won't be happening.  :'(

Quote
"To tell you the truth, I actually wanted to create Link's Crossbow Training 2," Aonuma said. "I thought that we should do something more and better in the field of the first person shooter, based on our experience of the first game. For example, I was thinking that maybe we could intensify the multiplayer mode. The original game was really just a solo game but I thought that we could add a true multiplayer mode with multiple users playing together, from remote areas, over the Wi-Fi Connection."

Why?

Quote
So why aren't we anticipating a new online multiplayer Zelda crossbow FPS right now? ecause Nintendo higher-ups (mercifully?) shot Aonuma's idea down. "The fact of the matter is that a lot of people inside Nintendo insisted that I should work on a new Legend Of Zelda title rather than working on more Crossbow Training," Aonuma said.

Why does Miyamoto hate real gaming?  :'(

thought people knew about this but imma blow the doors off the whole new Zelda twist :

Nintendo being late to the party that we all had a year or so ago, they've gone and jumped on the "old man" bandwagon.

Link will be an old man when he makes his "i am a great hero" discovery. Miyamoto has said that a lot of his experiences in his later life have lead to some of the best ideas, and he's lent his guiding hand to the team on this one. helping to instill a sense of being a true doddering old fuck to the proceedings. Wander slowly from location to location, getting a sword you can barely lift and a shield you have to operate with two hands. The old Ganon makes a shock return, and in the first scene is involved in a very low speed foot chase of grandma Zelda who is caught when here colostomy bag pops on a gem foolishly left floating in some tall grass. From there on in, it's action all the way, and action like you've never seen before. GONE are the sailing sections, horse, train etc which Miyamoto described as "inconvenient for old people" instead, Wii owners will be totally immersed in the body of Link! use the wiimote to operate your walking stick and hobble for days to find Zelda! Gasp in horror as your map and task list disappears as you forget where you've been or where you are going! Endure horrifically inaccurate controls , perfectly simulating the frail body you are dumped into, RANDOM DEATH can strike at any moment adding an ongoing fear element to the game and a race against a timer you can never see!

Zelda : The Brown Bag Hobblethon will be release in Japan for 5980 yen normal edition, or 9800 yen which comes with an authentic stick and a "bag of shit to recreate the smell" (a.k.a. complimentary copy of Super Paper Mario)

erm...... That's only 5% a joke. Old Link is happening, i actually like the idea - it's nice to see Nintendo take a risk.

I hear that you are not old all the time, it's some sort of curse - you zap in and out of an old persons body and you have certain disadvantages/advantages. Apparently, at first it was random but it was hogging the dev time because it would make certain dungeons impossible and you'd have to wait to transform back. So now it's tightly scripted.

AND just to clarify, obviously that's the only detail that's known - obviously everything else is made up.

yeah They already sort of hinted at this last E3.  Something about how you really ARE an Adult Link throughout the game.  I don't know what you've heard, but is it...like, old old Link, or just, like, a regular aged Link?

Also, I'm curious to see if the Master Sword girl in the artwork has anything to do what you're talking about.

Well, I mean, if this is all true, I guess we'll see.  Could be cool if presented well; I'm a little annoyed that we don't just have a straight fucking HEY YOU PLAY AS LINK AND NOTHING ELSE, FUCK YEAH, the whole transformation of Link in the 3D zeldas is kind of annoying.  Wolf Link  :yuck

Of course, this is all assuming you're being truthful and not just pulling my ninthing chain

you play as a link and malon in their early 30s, wondering why link jr. is nearly two years old and hasn't said a word. it's very emotional and heartbreaking.

Zelda in space and all the dungeons are on different planets and you have to fly around the overworld of the universe using only the propulsion from your sword slashes.

Nazi Germany Zelda where you cannot advance to the next area until you have located all the jews and set them free.  When you release the last one they all sing a song that opens the door to the next room in the giant prison dungeon.
