I got to agree, I thought Twilight Princess was pretty much fan fiction garbage and was pretty much the turning point for me in deciding to sever ties with Nintendo altogether.

TP's plot and settings and characters were fan fiction garbage, but the gameplay was mostly top-notch.

On the other hand, I had to take a month-long break about 2/3 into Okami because the boring repetitiveness was just too much to bear.

It was derivative and boring, and from folks I trust, apparently did not pick up until later into the game. And I simply did not feel like watching Nintendo wank off to message board fans for hours and play through some boring dungeons to get to the good stuff.

I was disappointed in TP too, but I find it a bit shocking that it would be the game that makes one lose faith in Nintendo's developing abilities, when there are so many more choice instances. (Picking pretty much anything that came out of Nintendo during the first 4 years of the GC)

I thought Twilight Princess was really good, with probably some of the best dungeon design in 3D Zelda. I'd argue it was my favorite 3D Zelda, even with the slow-as-a-snail beginning. Picked up for me right about the second dungeon, and just steadily improved from there.

TP *is* OoT 2.

Yeah, TP is kind of awesome.  The overworld sucked, but there were a lot of dungeons and they are were all awesome and the ending bit with gannon was pretty badass.


Spirit Tracks however is a piece of shit.  Even the dungeons are C-rate.

I'm not denying that the recent overworlds in Zelda could use some more accessible and interactive content. I admitted as much in my first post in this thread. But I wouldn't call it "crap." I think that word should be reserved for games like Morrowind, Fable, and Dark Cloud. There are a few average portions in every Zelda game, but that's about as low as it gets -- everything else is magnificent.
