Is this good? I haven't really fully enjoyed a 'Slug game in a while.

It's a remix of Metal Slug 7, which also came out on the DS and is slated for an XBLA release. Most reviews said it was more of the same.  Take that as you wish.  I love me some Metal Slug, though.

Didn't SNKP say that it was going to be titled with the XX?

The game is so-so, IMO.  It leaked last month and I played up until the last level, then stopped.  You get a few new 'Slugs to ride (I never played through MS7 so they are new to me), but it's mostly the same old soldiers against generally-static backgrounds (no animation whatsoever)  Feels like a downgrade from MS6 visually, plays the same.  Some of the later stages feel unfairly difficult...even for Metal Slug.  Leona has also been added and is only accessable through CWCHEAT.  People were wondering why, and now thanks to Atlus we know-- They are making her "DLC," as in "pay us another buck and get the Leona unlock key for your PSP."   :yuck  There's also a shit-ton of combat school stages.

$19.99's a great price, but I'm waiting to see how the game turns out on XBLA.  Also AFAIK the game is coming to PSN (for Go owners) but later on.

Yes, they did.  XX is supposed to be hitting XBLA.

Yeah, they confirmed that alongside the XBLA ports of KOF 2002 UM, NGBC and KOF Sky Stage.

I thought it was just vanilla 7.  Good stuff, nonetheless, I actually prefer these games on portables these days.

@Lyte: When they did announce it for PSN?  I couldn't find an official confirmation.

It was, but they recently re-confirmed their XBLA titles and changed MS7 to MSXX.

Doesn't sound much different than MS7. I actually welcomed the ramped-up difficulty, mostly because the game is pathetically short as it is and there's not a whole lot of replay value. No memorable level design, no amazing bosses.

I heard Kingdom Hearts isnt coming to GO either, my mate is pissed  :lol

One of my friends doesn't believe me about this.  He thinks the Japanese guy who asked Square staff at a previous KH event and then blogged that they said it wasn't coming is just bullshit, and that the pamphlet shown with upcoming PSP releases, which shows KH with only a UMD logo and no PSN download icon, is a "misprint."   :lol

Gundam Vs. Gundam Next Plus is the other big PSP title that doesn't seem to be getting a PSN release.

The J-360 sold like twice as much as the PSP Go did last month.   :lol

Retailers still have a lot of Gos sitting on the shelves?  I thought they pretty much hated it anyway.

BTW, Kingdom Hearts has already leaked...requires 6.20 firmware and does not work on CFW.

Yep.  Which means the import thread is dead.

Meh, I'll use my OFW psp when I get my physical copy mid-next week.  Would rather have been able to try it this weekend but psp scene is pretty crap these days.  Sony beat the hackers.

Sure, if you don't mind playing games late, having glitchy firmware, and not being able to use a ton of features you can always count on GEN CFW.

The only game I had to wait on to play "late" was Tekken 6...like three days after it came out.  I haven't had any problems with GEN and all the features I want to use are there.  Plus I have an OFW PSP to use when I can't play use CFW anyway.  Doesn't bother me one bit.

Bebpo crying wolf. Hackers will come out on top yet again. It's not like Sony's been able to stop them before.

Except online LBP psp and all the > 6.10 games that were unplayable for weeks until GEN D3 came out.  Oh and all the glitches associated with GEN D3's release and the fact that a lot of homebrew still doesn't work on the later GEN versions.  Do the PS1 players even work anymore?

It's not crying wolf as much as I think GEN team fucking sucks and I wish they'd give up so someone else would take their place.  This constant battle between OFW and shitty GEN firmware has been really lame for gamers who play PSP a lot.

The keyword being until in "until GEN D3 came out."  Team GEN promised everything would work.  They even gave people Tekken 6 "early."  Then we had to wait a few weeks for them to release D3, which they announced would play everything up until that point and through 6.10.  It did.  And it has for everything new right up until Kingdom Hearts, which has only just now come out...like today.  Give them a day or two to patch this shit, sheesh.  I don't think the Japanese language version of the game is high on the priority list anyway.  (EDIT: The admin at a PSP DL site I frequent says he's already working on a patch.)

Like what?  Unless you mean the stuff that happened right at release, which they patched in like a day.

Also like what?  Everything I use does.

Yup.

Yeah, Dark Alex was better, no question.  But GEN has been doing a good job, and I don't see anyone else stepping up to bat.  Not to mention when it all boils down to it, this is FREE.  It's not like they owe us anything.  It's homebrew.

I play my PSP all the time.  Since GEN was released, I have had to go back to using my old PSP three times: Had to wait under a week for Soul Calibur BD to be patched.  Had to wait a few weeks for Tenchu 3 Portable to be patched.  Had to wait 2-3 days for Tekken 6 to be patched.

That's it.  The only long wait was for Tenchu, and I had no problem shelving it since it's just a port of an old game anyway.   Every single one of the 50 or so games in my PSP library is fully playable on my CFW PSP.  Everything I have downloaded works fine too.  No complaints.

I guess YMMV.  I don't give a shit about accessing PSN from my PSP, nor do I care about LBP or its online functions.

I was reading some threads on KH BBS and either S-E or Sony really went out of their way with the new protection.  Hackers in the scene are saying it won't ever work on GEN D3 and that a new GEN would have to come out with major changes to get the game running.  Then I hear that GEN quit?  And there will be no more GEN releases because someone stole their D3 code and released it as M33-8.  Hmmmm....if all games from here on out use whatever BBS is using it'll sure get interesting.  Lot of big PSP releases in the first 3 months of this year (in Japan).

They will get it hacked and working, and if GEN quit (they didn't, it's Yoshihiro who says he won't update due to someone using his code; doesn't mean he is really done), someone else will take over.

Same old song and dance.  "DARK ALEX HAS QUIT CFW IS FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111"  "GEN D2 DOESN'T PLAY ANYTHING NEW CFW IS FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111"  etc etc
