I got into the MP for the first time this weekend. I really like the way you buy your equipment and the new money system. My only complaint is that the early guns you unlock all suck. The M14 is the worst. 
What a wasted round that was. I have just been using the M16.
Any of you have any advice on which early guns are the best and which to avoid so I don't waste mah money?
I'm actually not that bad with the M14 especially with a grip on it. Now the FN FAL I can't use very well myself although most people think its better than the M14 but I prefer the M14. The reality is in non-hardcore modes you have to use those guns in very specific ways because most people are going to be using fully automatics so they can just outgun you with bullets.
As far as the god tier guns I would say this in no particular order.
Famas: Especially deadly with a suppressor. Very accurate. Most popular gun in the game for a reason.
Galil: Excellent gun. Lots of bullets its spits out. Has some recoil but the amount of bullets spit out really compensates for the recoil.
AUG: Very good weapon. Probably has the most useful acog in the game.
G11: Great distance gun. Especially with the Low Power scope. It's a burst fire gun but if you are playing at the proper distance it won't matter.
AK74u: Clearly the best smg in the game. Very good with the grip. The most commonly used smg.
I think all those are clearly god tier. For the average player they will perform better with those guns than other guns for the most part. The next tier are really good weapons also but that I place a tier below but some people might think some are just as good as the god tier ones in some cases.
AK47: Lot of people like this gun. Default it has too much recoil for my taste but with a suppressor I think it probably reaches god tier in many cases.
Commando: People like this gun because it spits out a lot bullets and it has relatively little recoil. It reminds some people of the ACR from MW 2. While that's true for me it feels like it takes awhile to kill people which makes me shy away from it but its very popular with others.
MAC11: As long as you get right up on top of people and maybe go with extended mags, I think this smg is really good. Not a ton of people use it for some reason though.
Spectre or MPL: You just have to try both of them out and see which one you like better. But they are definitely two of the better smg's.
Stoner63: Basically its an LMG that acts as an assault rifle. Most black ops players are run and gunners so they don't like the movement characteristics when you use an LMG but if you can get over that its a very good assault rifle type gun that does a lot of damage and is decently accurate. The sights on it are tough to use default though.
M16: The old reliable. Maybe not quite as dominant as in other COD games especially without stopping power but still a good gun.
So that's my take. But a lot of times I think any gun can be good as long as you use it properly and situationally.
Like I like the HK21 and PM63 a lot personally but that's mainly because I'm pretty good with them situationally.
