Oh the difference!

Yes, it still has moments of great humor, but they're in spurts. The problem for me is what was once a comedy with dramatic outbursts from time to time is now a dramatic show with comedic outburst from time to time. And for a show that really hinges on a likable, lovable protaganist, they went out of their way this year to make him someone to loathe rather than like for a good 75% of the season.

It was NBC's fault (as it always is), since they ordered the back 6 a couple of episodes into this season and fucked the writers up with trying to create a proper arch.

They really had no choice, by the time they got word of a back 6, they were already done writing the last episode, and filming episodes 10 or 11. They would've had to start all over again with the last 3 or 4 episodes, and they didn't have time for it.

To the first, he got Sarah at the end of the penultimate episode when she told him "its real"
To the second, he got the Intersect 2.0 and started kicking ass

NBC Admits To Never Actually Making An Episode of 'Chuck'

LOS ANGELES—The NBC action-comedy Chuck, familiar to millions of viewers from its long-running promo bumpers, does not actually exist, network executives admitted Friday. "We had a very successful, very expensive promotional campaign, but to be honest, we never actually bothered making a pilot," NBC spokesperson Grant Twombly said. "I guess everybody just assumes everybody else is watching it, because advertisers have jumped on board, and DVD sales are somehow doing great." A ratings analyst reached for comment confirmed that "people can't get enough of that Chuck."

I partially agree with Solo; I think the last stretch of Season 2 was stronger than anything from this season. But as an entire season, I've dug Season 3 a bit more. I liked the darker tone and where they have taken the characters. Bringing Morgan into the fold was a great idea.

I didn't like Shaw as a supporting character, although he didn't make me boil with anger like he apparently does with a lot of Chuck fans. Making him a completely evil dick is smart money.

I think the stretch of the last four episodes have been incredibly strong – stronger than anything in season 2, I think. Maaaaybe the last four episodes of season 2 are equal with it, I don't know. I'll have to go through my Chuck summer rewatch in a few weeks.

Man, I rewatched Chuck vs The Subway again and it's pretty much the perfect Chuck episode imo: Shaw's "mwahaha" laugh, revelations and secrets revealed, tons of action, betrayals...it just owns, from beginning to end.
