Just wondering which is easier to pick up and play without much explanation. Assume the other person is a noob.

Seiken Densetsu 3 is almost unplayable online if you're doing it over ZSNES or something. Lots of horrible de-syncs and whatnot. Secret of Mana is flawless, though.

Otherwise they're pretty much the same. Seiken Densetsu 3 is reaaaally easy and especially friendly to button-mashers, so that'd be my pick. Neither games are exactly difficult, honestly.

If you play SD3 then have your friend pick Kevin as his character.

I love SD2/Secret of Mana, but I couldn't get into SD3 at all.

Secret of Mana is great, but it sucks big fat Rocco Siffredi cock once you get the dragon. Plus all the bosses are cake since you can chaincast them to death. I never actually finished SD3, but I think it offers more versatility for multiplayer with the choice of different classes and stuff. And it is more casual-friendly

Yeah, the chaincast thing was really broken in SD2. I never played much of SD3 but I vaguely remember it having a timer for spells, so it has that in its favor at least.

ZSNES question for Optimo...

Is it possible to just have one player watch while the other plays? I've used Netplay before to play SD3, etc, but I've always wanted to have someone connect to me and watch me play and comment in the chat, etc.

You'll be fine playing it locally. And in both games you start out alone and pick up your allies about 30 minutes in.

edit: For what it's worth, Secret of Mana IS the better game, it just sounds like SD3 might be more suitable for what you're looking for. If you guys are down for it you might as well just play both, cuz it's not like they're 40 hour games or something.

Yeah, it's basically just like having someone sit right next to you with a second controller plugged into the SNES. If they want to hop in they can hit the start button and control a character, but there's no forced single or multiplayer option for those games.

The chat kinda sucks though because the game has to be paused to bring up the chat window. And if you're planning on doing this you need to use a older version of ZSNES, because they abandoned working out the kinks of netplay and for some dumbfuck reason decided to just remove the option completely in the newer releases.

When me and my buddy did Mana we were hitting escape and bringing up the main chat window every 30 seconds to ask each other wtf we were doing. Come to think of it, I never looked at the readmes to see if there was an in-game chat option

10. If you want to chat in-game, press 'T' and type in your line. You can
change this key in the Misc -> Misc Keys options from the GUI.

i've tried playing them both in single but i always get bored somewhere halftrough... maybe i could give it another spin since i was playing action rpg's but i don't know...
