Interplay Resurrecting Classic RPG On The Wii Interplay announced today that they're reviving one of the games from their heyday. They're partnering with Alpine Studios to create a Wii game based on the role-playing game Stonekeep.

Stonekeep is a first-person dungeon crawler that was originally released for the PC in 1995. A hero named Drake journeys into a forgotten castle to defeat an insane god. The press release mentions that Interplay and Alpine's project is a "new game" but doesn't go into details. It's not clear whether it's just a remake of the original Stonekeep or an all-new adventure inspired by it.

Alpine and Interplay expect the game to be finished by the third quarter of 2010. It'll be released digitally through WiiWare.

o_0  I guess no blood in the game then.

First Clayfighter, then this. Interplay needs to revive Rock N Roll Racing next.

I'm guessing Interplay is making games just for the cheapest possible development budget on the lowest licensing cost option.

I'm just guessing that because nothing else at all makes any sense about it.

They need to make an HD version of Blackthorne for XBL/PSN/Steam, blowing away slaves in 1080p would be the pinnacle of gaming achievements.

I loved how you could do that and face no consequences whatsoever, it was as if shooting the slaves mattered as much as shooting empty air.

Isn't Interplay just a shell company designed to keep their lawsuits alive? Like some kind of Wizard of Oz thing, where you peel back the curtain and some frenchman in a Titus T-shirt is wildly flipping controls to make it seem like there's a whole company there?

Sure, they're basically operating out of dumpster at this point, but that doesn't mean they can't still license stuff out.

I like the imagery. Particularly if Caen is physically in the dumpster.
