Finally accepted that it was time to buy the English version of Rule of Rose PS2 too.

I've been filling out the last of my "missing" Ps2 titles and i'm pretty much done with US Gregory Horror Show and Sega Gems Collection being pretty much the last of what i want to get.

I guess i should pick up Trizeal, Cho Aniki and Triggerheart E. but just can't bring myself to pay $30 a pop.

Final PS2 total is going to be pretty close to 500 :/

New PC/console gaming monitor, take two!  ASUS MS238H 23" LED-backlit LCD monitor.




Ultra-thin and light, with the same great picture my ASUS VK266H has, only at 1920x1080 and whites seem to be brighter in comparison.  It's pretty sleek-looking and looks less like a typical PC monitor and more like an HDTV.  Has sensor panel buttons which light up when you touch them.  Looks cool, but they aren't as responsive as regular ol' buttons.

Since I have a new xbox, I went out to get an HDMI cable to replace my proprietary VGA cable.
I learned a new phrase in Japanese: 客さんをアナルレイプ　

That VGA cable was 4500 yen, which was pretty damned expensive and I cursed MS for their wily use of proprietary connections on the machine. Just like Nintendo and Sony have on their consoles.

Today I learned that HDMI, the DRM-enabled, entertainment-industry-preferred format which is so ubiquitous that there should be a very competitive marketplace for them... IS FREAKING 4000 yen for a 2m cable. In fairness, there was a 1750 yen HDMI cable, but it was literally 0.5m and I wasn't up for dangling my 360 off the back of my TV.

I think I was looking around for a way to play my PSP on my computer monitor and I found this thing.  It was $50 and includes all the cables needed, the nicest being a long component cable (compared to the short official sony one).  I got it because it lets me play PSP games full screen on my TV, but from what I understand it also upscales the picture similar to how the PS3 does to PS2 games (or did); you set the output resolution and it goes up to 1440x900.  Whatever the case, it doesn't look that bad considering, though it is still blurry and all that.  It is a nice solution to playing PSP games on your TV with it being in a tiny box or the aspect ratio messed up.  The only problem is that it crops a tiny bit off the bottom and top of the picture (a tiny amount) and if you have 16:10 monitor it doesn't force a 16:9 aspect ratio with black bar.  Probably also has minor one or two frame input lag like the PS3 but I can't really notice.

Apparently there is a more expensive one that's HDMI and supports the PSP Go.

Crap. Crap, crap, crap. Amazonベーシック shows a range of cables under 1000 yen. One is under 700 yen. I didn't even think to check Amazon. Didn't know they offered those.

Yeah, part of the reason I didn't get super surprised to see this in Japan was the prices were similar in the USA. I saw 30USD for a regular HDMI cable, and even saw 120USD for a deluxe thingy. WTF? It's a CABLE.

I got it at Officemax for $69.99.  Forgot to look for coupons; probably could have gotten another $10 off.

Also before I went to Officemax, I stopped at Office Depot.  Nobody was in the store.  Nobody was at the registers.  I find the drive ($59.99 there), grab the ticket, and go find someone.  There's two girls yapping about some shit they got into with the manager, and a dude just standing there listening.  The guy radios for someone to bring the drive and then gives me the most pathetic speech about why I need to pay extra for an extended warranty.  I am sent over to another register and with one of the girls (who is now yelling back to the other girl on the other side of the store, continuing the conversation) and am then told they don't have the HDD in stock.  Uh...? 

"Well, there's another Seagate just like this one for Macs you guys have.  It's the same thing.  Just give me that."  I get a blank stare from the guy, so I take him back to the HDD section and point it out to him.  Like the other drive, there's tickets for it.  He radios and tells me "nope we ain't got that one 'neither mayne.  But how 'bout this Verbatim?  Same thing, 'bout the same price."  I tell him I'm not sure since I want that specific drive for what I'm going to use it with.  "You ain't doing any software cracking, are you??" he asks me.     I left the store with him still trying to get me to buy it.

Officemax had people at the registers (and there were people there, buying stuff!  ) and I picked up the HDD within minutes of walking into the store.
