I just bought the original canvas of this, by Brendan McCarthy. :rock

I personally think the man is a raving genius and can't wait to have this on my wall. Your mileage will almost certainly vary but I don't care!

Curb Your Enthusiasm

I never saw the show at all except occasional Youtube links that people would post.  Since HBO DVDs are half off at Best Buy, I bought seasons 1, 6, and 7.  I'm really tempted to go back today and get 2-5.  At $18 each, why not.

a pair of these came in the mail

(Image removed from quote.)

theyre shooting gloves, no i'm not going to be a dork and wear them at indoor ranges, it's for the rifle range

I think those are actually for fixing cars but it doesn't matter because you are still a loser regardless!

Savaged...

drew caught attempting suicide wearing mechanics gloves.

I mean the fucking brand is called "Mechanix."  The mechanics at my work have those gloves.  How the fuck anyone would conflate "shooting gloves" with "Mechanix" blows my mind.

Mechanix gloves are pretty popular with militia and PMC dudes.

Now that they've hacked it, the Go has reached awesome status.

My Go's firmware is too high so I can't partake of the ISO fun (yet)...can't wait to be able to play some Lumines, Outrun, and the like on the Go.  FINALLY.

that's why I bought it

the firmware was 5.70 and I want to upgrade to 6.20 so I can get this stuff rolling, but PSP battery needs to be fully charged.

only shame is that I can't get those three games for free since you need to sign into PSN on the go, but you can't on older firmwares.

If you can run ISOs, you can get those games for free anyway.   ;)

I downloaded them and still have yet to try any of them.  Don't have much interest in those titles.

the iso loading thing works fine, btw.  you can even use the pause mode feature with it.

Another neat thing about the PSP Go is that if you use a ps3 controller with it and play a PS1 game, it maps L2/R2 properly (instead of on the analog nub).  Gives me hope that someone will release a plugin that lets you remap buttons to anything the dual shock in the future.  The Go is a nice portable device and all, but I'm trying to set it up to be more of my PSP console.

other problem is all the proprietary junk it deals with.  You can't charge the system and use video out without buying the cradle because they use the same port.

Nice!  I do know that some games don't work properly...people have been reporting crashes when running certain titles.

Yeah, I use mine with TV-out all the time.  I originally bought it to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 online, on TV, with a PS3 controller.  Although I ended up not playing PSP2 as much as I would have thought.   :lol :(

Yeah, I bit the bullet and got the cradle immediately.  You can get all the PSP Go accessories cheap enough from the right stores.  You also have to use an original PSP AC adaptor with the cradle, BTW.   :lol

But once you have it all set up, it makes it easy to hook the Go up to a TV and/or charge it.  No hassle, no cords to keep plugging in and unplugging again.

yeah, I ordered component cables for $8 dollars, but I might go for the official cradle since it is $20 at Amazon.

In the end my setup will be: PSP Go Cradle -> LKV7000 -> TV. It will be a mess of wires but it should act like a proper PSP console I've wanted.

The go hardware itself is really nice, though.  I finally understand why recent racers Motorstorm use R/L for accel/brake since it feels natural.  On my 3000 I'd just change it to the face buttons and steer with the d-pad, but the position of the analog nub is better on the go so I switched to using that too.

Picked up a Kinect in Japan which was less expensive than in the USA.

During this trip:
Kinect Joy Ride
Kinect Dance Central
B2G1Free: Pure/Lego Batman, Tony Hawk Proving Ground (meant to get Underground), and Bullet Witch for US$21 total.
MacBook Air, 13" 256GB SDD, 4GB RAM
16GB SDD USB drive for moar storage space for Xbox 360 MU. Damned things are Ą6000 in Japan, 16 dolla on Amazon in US.

Yeah, mine's not fast. I didn't realize how much variation there could actually be. US$16 is cheap, cheap, cheap, but the 360 said, "This doesn't meet spec, but you can use it anyway, you dirty poor."

i should have thought to check amazon.co.jp just as I'd not thought to check it for the HDMI cable when I needed one of those.

12 gbs of DDR3 2000MHZ + Creative X-FI Titanium HD

The Titanium HD sounds much nicer with earphones than my previous X-FI Titanium Pro and as a bonus, isn't associated with assface Fatal1y.  The only problem is now I'm tempted to buy a much more expensive DAC/AMP combo since electronics have such an impact on my earphones' performance.  I hate it when that happens.

Even with 6gbs, I noticed that Windows 7 was making use of the pagefile sometimes.  12 GB allows me to run without a pagefile so that my SSD won't wear out so fast.  Also, the new memory is a little bit faster than what I had before (1600 mhz).  So far, everything seems a little snappier with the upgrade but the main benefit is that now I can use a bigger ramdisk for games.

The pic is bad because the soundcard box was too reflective and I was trying to get a better angle on it.  It was taken with my HTC G2 phone which actually has a pretty decent camera.

(Image removed from quote.)

Which ones are these?  Shures are great.  I was so upset when I lost my 530s last year while hiking.

The Shure SRH840 over the ear headphones supposedly sounds amazing and is a better deal than Shure's IEMs at the same price range.  I'm not sure if it would require a seperate amp though.

Aaaaagh I had a whole review of my new receiver typed up and ready to post and then I accidentally the whole tab. Fuck this. Mupepe, I shall deliver another day.

Short version:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
[close]
So far, pros:
  • subdued and organized OSD. Mainly gray/black-n-white. Works well under low light conditions without killing your eyes.
  • Sound is awesome. Blew me away how much inferior my previous setup was.
  • MCACC setup and options are awesome. You can even drop your data on an USB stick and modify it on your PC. Autosetup quick and painless, caught wrong wiring (switched +/- terminals).
  • Webstream client, HDMI control, MP3 player access works, everything just works right out of the box. I expected trouble.

cons:
  • wtf is up with that remote? 5x22cm, has sort of sharp edges, a bazillion buttons and barely any haptic feedback which side should be pointed at the receiver. Red LED flashing when a button is pressed doesn't help. Uses AAA batteries. Can learn other IR commands by intercepting the IR signals. Neat. But not enough.
  • polished front panel. Looks neat, attracts dust, fingerprints, lice, cats, meteorites, everything and anything. Kill designers. Wear their hides. Pee on design docs. Gnarrrharrharr.
  • Front connectors hidden under removable cover. I'd have liked it if it stayed attached to the system, but instead it just pops off - which is by design, I might add.

???:
  • OSD is 576p/50Hz. Looks surprisingly acceptable, will decide later.
  • Couldn't find a display dimming option (120 pages per language manual, very comprehensive). Haven't really looked that much though.

You're in Santa Cruz ???

I love Atlantis Fantasyworld
I was, for about 4 hours. I was meeting a friend at River Café for coffee, and afterward decided to check my reserve box at Atlantis. I only had one item waiting for me, so the rest was just going crazy on impulse buys.

If I'd known there was a 'Bore contingency in SC, I'd have lengthened the stay.  :-\

First purchase for the new place we're going to be moving into in a few weeks.  It was on sale today for $499 on Amazon.

Panasonic TC-L42U25 42-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV

Don't want Plasma-- my brother got a cheaper 40-something inch Plasma for $800 few months back, and I hated the way it looked, actually.  I wanted a cheap LCD.  This one has gotten some very good ratings and seemed like a steal for the price.  It's an IPS instead of a TN Panel.  Have read that it's very good for gaming; no noticeable input lag, etc. etc.  Works for me.

One of my buddies has the Panny 3D Plasma set that's CNET's top-rated plasma; I don't care about 3D but the picture was awesome.  I'd take that, but it was also like $2,400.

42" IPS for $500 seems like a real steal.  There are 24" IPS monitors that cost way more than that.

If you care mostly about gaming, then a LCD is the wiser choice although I prefer a plasma's picture quality.  It's better to not have to worry about burn-in and image retention.  They're not major problems anymore but they've not been completely eliminated either.

image retention is only a problem if you're staring at a blank screen...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
or when you've watched the world cup everyday for over a month at a 4:3 image because you didn't have an hd receiver, causing the tv to retain the grey borders for over a week once it was over :'(
