Got home, my copy of TDKR supposedly arrived at 11am accoridng to ONTRAC... nowhere to be found. My wife was working from home today and we had other packages delivered, but not it. Contacted Amazon and they said it was lost. Why would you list it as being delivered, then?

I could likely get much better here but the world of Japanese knives is impenetrable to me, and this was highly recommended by Tim Ferriss (or to be more accurate, the many experts he polls).

The gear section in his new book is pretty handy - i picked up a bunch of stuff like the Polder thermometer, the microplane, the juicer and the Hario coffee grinder. The last is the only disappointment so far but it was only $30. The thermometer is a game-changer

I think you'd get something out of 4 Hour Body at least. He throws a lot of shit at the wall and I am by no means vouching for all of it. But the reason I am at home right now instead of in a cubicle is largely Tim Ferriss, and he gets a lifetime pass from me for that. I'd rank him up there with Robb Wolf and Mark Sisson for people who have influenced my lifestyle.

A nice recent discovery is that Xbox Media Center partially supports AirPlay now, very handy for surfing youtube on the big screen (although there are of course many other ways). Weirdly it supports video + audio, but not audio streams alone.

yes. this. i would never allow a kitchen knife into my home. never cut myself actually cutting food but its just by doing stupid shit like opening up packages. i will never have the same level of use in my left thumb as I did before, it bothers me every day. be careful.

I had a real chef (not a cook, a lead chef at a major hotel in Tokyo) give me a knife skills demo once (he taught me how to prep veggies for soup, getting everything equal size...) and he said for safety reasons, he strongly PREFERS the sharpest knife possible, because instead of catching on something like an avocado seed and going in an unintended direction (i.e. into your thumb), it will just go straight through. So long as I use the correct hand position, which I think I do, I feel comfortable with it. It helps a lot that I don't have mountains of veggies and meat to prep every day, so I can concentrate long enough to get the job done safely. My wife and child have been strongly warned away from it though.

when i said opening packages i didn't mean like UPS and FedEX ooh i got some shit from amazon type of packages, i'm talking about the shrinkwrap around unsliced deli meat or un portioned new york strip, or opening up a bag of spring mix or bleu cheese or frozen farm raised Tilapia (yuck). you know. i just use a steak knife to do that stuff now.
