That's a lot of work just to be better than DS. Is DS really that good?

Futari is great, but both Mushihime games has the worst aesthetic of any of the Cave shmups.  Giant ugly insects....yay?  The gameplay is very much there but I also like the gorgeous 2d side of Cave to compliment their great gameplay.  Death Smiles offers cool looking sprites and really awesome bosses (EVIL COW) that I just don't get in Futari.

Plus I like that Death Smiles has more story inserted into the game (a nice cute story with multiple endings).  And I like the soundtrack in DS a lot more than Mushihime.  Plus since I suck at these games I like that Death Smiles is easy ;)  Having multiple characters that all play different is nice too.

I mean the boss of Death Smiles is TYRANNOSATAN
That has more personality than any evil beattle or rocket ship.

That's a good price.  I hope it sells well enough that they bring over ALL of Cave's X360 releases.  I'll double dip to support them and be able to play it on my US X360.

I really really want to retire my J360.  I'm going to pass on Ketsui & Deathsmiles 2 and see if they get announced for domestic release.  It's not like they have anything must-have in the first press like Futari's EXTRA MODE or DS's FULL-VOICE.  Ketsui has like a booklet (yawn), DS2 has nothing iirc.

Should be out later this year, but with XBLA you never know. It's going to have some new modes too:

Quote from: andriasang
The XLA version will include three versions of the game: Arcade Version, a “Blue Version,” which was previously put on display at Cave Festival events, and an Arrange version which involves some reworking of the controls with the analog stick. Given that this game is an XLA release, it seems that CAVE will be adding another localization notch to its belt after the North American release of DeathSmiles by Aksys.

Jesus. You'd really be that embarrassed? Afraid of what the nerdlinger behind the Gamestop counter is going to think of you?

Only time I've been embarrassed buying a game was when I bought Culdcept for the 360 and the little Asian lady proceeded to tell me all about the Culdcept anime which I had never even heard of. I just wanted to leave the store but she would not shut the fuck up! I was embarrassed for her.

When it all boils down to it, the characters are just these little sprites on the screen amidst a shitload of bullets and enemies.

I liked Deathsmiles but didn't play it that much.  Otomedius was more fun, IMO.  I think I prefer Konami's Gradius-style games over anything Cave makes.
