We had a 4.3 at 4:00am this morning.

Third quake of that size in the same area this week.

One step closer to having it fall off into the ocean. And why do you think I stay on the East Coast unless I'm working? :smug

Did you really create a thread about a mild earthquake in California days after a major earthquake hit Haiti, killing tens of thousands of people?

Northern Cal got a 6.5 earlier in the week, but we've had three of this size in nearly the exact same spot in the last couple days.

That's just half-point difference from Haiti. Where is the humanitarian aid for NoCal?

IIRC patterns don't help predict anything, so it's not like this is building up to be a larger Earthquake.

The quake was terrible. It caused the neighbor's car alarm to go off. Manabyte had to live with the unbearable noise for five minutes before his neighbor woke up, went outside, and turned the alarm off.

At least the people in Haiti don't have to deal with that.

I don't think Malek has ever been in an earthquake. He'd feel a 1.0 and go running for the doorway.

IIRC patterns don't help predict anything, so it's not like this is building up to be a larger Earthquake.

Patterns are either:

1. The fault "letting off steam" to prevent a larger quake.
2. Precursor to a larger quake.

Both Northridge and Loma Prieta were after smaller quakes in the general area. Even the 6.5 last week in Eureka was following smaller 3.0-3.9 quakes right around the epicenter.

pfff you guys think that's scary?  Try attending a law class.  You think having to hid under a doorway at a little shaking is bad?  Malek has to hid under his desk every time someone looks at him.  Now that is living in fear.

It's a logarithmic scale.  The Haiti quake was about 5.6 times more energetic than this one.

Still! Haiti is getting, what, $560 million in aid? So that's $100 million for NoCal. We don't want more than our share.

To put it in perspective, the one that fucked up Italy was a 6.3.
