Is 24 worth watching anymore?

New season started tonight. This might be the least excited I have ever been for a season of 24. How is this show not cancelled yet?

I watched it.  Was entertained.

I just don't take it seriously anymore, ie. making fun of the patented 24 tropes.  I just have the TV on and half-watch it while browsing the internets.

I watched some of it.  It felt like a rerun.  No one's listening to Chloe.  The new head of CTU hinders operations more then he helps.  Jack promises his daughter "he'll make it to the [family event] on time".

On the plus side, Freddie Prince Jr. :drool

Didn't see it tonight, I'll catch it on hulu.

I'm excited but at the same time disappointed in some of the plot points I've read about. Mainly the fact that there will be multiple moles in the season. You'd think that by now there would be certain guidelines for the writers: no moles, no Rogue Jack, no kidnapping (especially of Kim). Yet all three of those things happened in S7. Granted I liked S7 but it felt stale at times, especially after the first few episodes.

Why would the show be canceled if people still watch it? I thought you were suppose to be smart.

It hasn't been worth watching since Season 5.  I decided that last year was my final season, so I voted no.

I kind of liked last season, but I didn't even realize there was going to be another season and was perfectly content with that. I'll give this season a watch, but I doubt I'll be broken up if this is the last season.

Pretty much this. The first few years it was legit good television and innovative for the medium. At this point I watch mainly out of habit.

It is what it is for TV. I still prefer watching it to 90% of television so while that isn't high praise, for TV it still isn't bad.

Was 24 EVER worth watching? And I'm saying this as someone who has watched just about every episode of this steaming pile of dung.

My (former) aunt said jews are so smart because each one is raised to think they might be the messiah, so they arrogantly learn everything they can just in case.

24 is the best show on tv. In my opinion. I know it's not the best but it's the only show I'll never miss.

Believe it or not, it looks like they finally found a new plot to go with, so yes.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Basically Renee (fembauer, or that FBI agent from last year) is a crazy bitch now, similar to how Jack used to be, and Jack has to babysit her. The MacGuffin is the same (nukes) but this could be interesting.

Holy shit @ Renee  :lol

VERY impressed so far. Even the mole has been handled well, and while the Dana Walsh subplot is annoying I want to know what the catch is

They've definitely done a better job of introducing new characters than they did in S6 or S7. Ortiz is pure badass; the accent is lol, but he's already shown more balls than most of the min-Jacks that have been in 24.

Hasan seems cool. I really, really hope they don't waste the character with some ridiculous twist: like say, him being the villain all along. He's reminding me a bit of Palmer.

But holy shit, Renee completely stole the fourth episode. Even Jack seemed shook, wow. Only four episodes in but this is definitely better than S7 so far. I like this slower pace, and each episode end has been pretty good. The only major red flag for me was the dude tainted with nuclear material. I thought for sure he was gonna be a bomb or some shit. Glad they didn't go that route  :lol

edit: they're really doing a good job juggling many plots, which is sort of a first.

Good post...Renee is awesome

But I dunno why Season 7 gets hate...the whole White house attack and hostage situation was absolutely mind-blowing.  I think people keep forgetting how amazing the 1st half of the season was...it was just incredible; the suspense was through the roof

While Renee has been awesome, this revelation about her being a former undercover agent is ridiculous, and just doesn't gel with the school girl innocent she displayed at the beginning of S7. I suppose one could argue that she must have had some emotional trauma during the undercover work and buried it deep inside her; I guess that could explain her mental breakdown later in S7 where she transitioned pretty quickly from school girl to Jacky Bauer.

I just hope they don't do something utterly ridiculous. Like, reveal Hasan is really the villain. Also, another CTU mole would seriously piss me off; I didn't have a problem with Hasan's brother but another CTU mole+Dana Walsh subplot would just be dumb considering this is supposed to be a state of the art defense organization. They're unable to run background checks? smh

Also, when will we get some info on what happened to Tony dammit

My philosophy on 24:

Yes, I know it's not the most compelling or even original television out there, but I sure do like seeing an action hero kick massive amounts of ass. I like seeing shit blow up too sometimes. The format fits well, and the payoff is usually satisfying. Hell, even season 6 (upon rewatch) wasn't bad during the last eight episodes or so.
