If that isn't from Newegg, you have failed as a human being.

Great CPU, but I come from a land where you don't mix Intel/ATI. I'd have gone with an Nvidia GPU, but that's me. A lot of EBers I think are ATI die-hards, so I'm probably the only one of this opinion.

EDIT: Also if you're going to be running a 32-bit operating system, don't buy that much RAM.

The 5770 is a great card; I've been nothing but pleased with mine. I know ATI's been shaky for a few years, but Nvidia's really dropped the ball at the DX10/DX11 transition and ATI is picking up the pieces with category-killers at every price range.

If you live in the U.S., buy from Newegg.

I know ATI is rock, but I don't combine Intel/ATI because of the AMD/ATI buyout thing. Doesn't seem right. But I may have to break my rule once the next line of cards comes around. Nvidia's Performance/Power Usage ratio sucks balls.

It's so easy, man. Really. Just touch the inside of your case a few times before you touch any of the silicon, and it's pretty goddamn self-explanatory. Hell I'll walk you through it over IM or some shit

unless RAM prices have soared over the past few months, that is way too expensive for 4gb of RAM.  you can 4gb for like 30-40 bucks anywhere
http://forums.anandtech.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 try this and this http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals?

it doesn't have to all be from newegg...just get wherever is best price

I would suggest is maybe a bigger hard drive.  Actually, in the second config you posted, the hard drive I just moved to is that Seagate one but at 1 terabyte.  It's not really important and if that 500 gig will last you, maybe wait a few years until SSDs get larger and cheaper.  My problem was that my 500 gig hard drive was filled fast because of that Steam sale.

Ditch the Sony disc drive for a Lite-On, I'd also ditch the Antec case to save yourself like $50 unless you really want one. And don't buy Corsair RAM, it's overpriced crap.

Are you sure you want a Core i, Jansen? They're really expensive now, and I wouldn't call early PC hardware adopters intelligent. Your rig is pretty cheap as it is, but I have a feeling your CPU is gonna get bottlenecked.

yeah, it differs from person to person.  I'm reaching 100 gigs in my steam folder alone; that doesn't include the many retail games I own.  It doesn't help that a lot of games these days are 10+ gigs.  Modern Warfare 2 is about 11, Fear 2 is about 15, Mass Effect 1 is 10+ not including DLC.  You could always uninstall and reinstall later, but the install process is really annoying on PC.  I think Halo 2 on PC had the option to play off the DVD, which was neat but I never tried it out because why the hell would I buy Halo 2 again.

Yeah I don't really understand why PC installation requirements are out of control.

Actually I do and it's because hard drives have gotten so big the devs figure "optimization, lol; just install 20 gigs!  They have the space!".  But it's still distinguished mentally-challenged.  Especially when it's a game that fits on a 6gig X360 disc.

90% of the Indie games.
Go here: http://indiegames.com/blog/
download free games that are actually good
Some cost money and are good too!  You can get most of these ones on Steam under Indie branch.

Most RTS/Strategy games are still PC exclusive.  Most Euro developed games are still PC exclusive.

Also PC has superior version of most console games this gen.  Mass Effect, L4D, Dragon Age, etc...

Truth; Bioware games are SO much better on PC, no matter how many more copies the console versions might sell.

if multiplatform AAA games are all you want to play just stick with consoles. The PC comparative advantage is that you get good versions of those + real strategy and simulation games + indie stuff.

That is a pretty low watt power supply for that rig. The 5770 requires 500 watts as a minimum and although it doesn't draw near that, throw in fans, processor, and hard disk and it adds up quick.

That is a pretty solid build.  You should be able to play nearly every game at 1680x1050 and 60 fps, barring Crysis.

No, you won't have that mobo then. Not if you want to stay up to date. Usually you want to cycle out the guts of your computer every two/three years. It'll eventually catch on, but it isn't worth the extra $20.

As far as monitors. Price and size is all up to wallet-size and personal preference respectively. Outside of that, make sure the response time is below 5ms, and the contrast ratio is above 1,000:1.

EDIT: Yeah, that monitor is solid afaik.
