I fucking hate Best Buy

Went into a BB today to try to take advantage of the B2G1 Platinum Hits deal (was going to get L4D, Bioshock and something else, but they were cleared out of all Platinum hits) and this dumb bitch working the videogame section was talking some poor guy out of buying a 360 Elite with Bayonetta and buying a PS3 Slim with Bayonetta.

And she did it with complete FUD:

1. The 360 doesn't come with a hard drive and you need to pay $200 for one.
2. All 360 games can also be bought on PS3 and look at least four times better because the PS3 runs them at 1080p and the 360 at only 480p. (This guy wanted Bayonetta too!)
3. It costs $100 a year to access the internet on the 360.

In the end the poor guy walked out with a PS3 250gig, Bayonetta, and Avatar: The Game.

whatever.  I hate that guy.  he's prepared to drop an investment on expensive entertainment, but he clearly didn't do a lick of research and instead, relied on a fucking best buy clerk to inform him.  He got everything he had coming to him.  In the end, he won't even know the difference, so I think the clerk had free reign to move the lower selling, inferior product to him.  He's gonna go home to his $2000 OLED and hook that bitch up with a fucking RF switch because he's distinguished mentally-challenged, but love it all just the same.

The guy wanted a system and Bayonetta.  He got one.  Maybe he also wanted to hook it up to his HDTV and watch movies, so the clerk told him to get the PS3 for blu-ray.  Who knows, who cares?  Smart shoppers know what they want and how to check for the best deals.  That guy didn't know any better.

I remember being in shitty ass retail, trying to know the differences between the products.  When customers would just pick the cheapest shit or whatever I could coax from a customer so I could get more of a commission from warranties, I stopped caring.  I imagine this woman never cared or was someone like me who realizes a wishy washy customer is just going to buy some dumb shit anyway.  Might as well speed up the process and get it over with.

Plus I bet she made the process longer so she can giggle with her female co-workers about a grown man buying Bayonetta after he left.

I don't really see a problem.  The customer is probably going to be perfectly happy with that purchase.  If he needed a Best Buy clerk to educate him, it's unlikely he'll be anywhere near as anal as some of us (including myself).  Bayonetta is one of the worst PS3 ports in a while, yet, it is still playable and the guy probably won't have any idea that anything is amiss.  I'm sure he'll be plenty happy and enjoy the system.

It sounds more like you're upset that they basically were bad mouthing the 360 with false claims.  The same shit can happen with anything in retail.  It's not uncommon at all.  The people who get suckered by this stuff probably aren't going to realize one way or another.

Well of course, but just play along.  The only time something like this would bother me is if I were the customer getting fed bullshit, telling the clerk I exactly what I wanted, but he/she attempts to lead me astray anyway, or god forbid some fanboy in the store tries to sway my purchase because system x and game y are better.  Otherwise, well, WHO CARES?

Yup.  When I was in retail, I didn't care what people were buying either, unless they specifically asked for my opinion on something.  The one exception to the rule was Dragonball GT, which was unique in that it was both a horrible, awful turd of a game, but also insanely popular (this was the import version, before it finally got re-released).  We would tell people how bad it was, even in front of the boss, and he'd just nod his head in agreement and say "these guys are saying this right in front of me, but I don't mind because the game is going to sell anyway.  It's crazy."  And then the customer would buy it.

This one time I was at Best Buy and this guy asked if he could play Halo 4 on the Wii and they told him yes, but since the Wii was only half as powerful as the 360, he had to buy two of them and hook them together, and then put one copy of Halo 2 in each machine it would add up to Halo 4. They also sold him two copies of Madden 2010.

That's the biggest danger, actually. The guy might buy Heavy Rain next, based on the same clerk's recommendations. Then he'd give up on gaming entirely.

If he'd bought a 360 at least he'd never even /risk/ encountering Heavy Rain.  :'(

Seriously though, I step in for cases like that. "Actually, if you look right here on the box, you can see that the model you were considering buying has a substantial HDD built in, and the terms for Xbox Live are free for Silver, but Gold costs this much..."
