Sorry, I'm back.  It turned out to be the dog of one of the neighbors in the complex.  I went down to help, but the neighbors across the way had gotten it off the road by then.  I didn't know who it belonged to until I went past the one neighbor's door and heard her sobbing horribly, saying, "My dog... my dog..."

It was a small black and white cockerspaniel.  When it was in the middle of the road, it was able to wag its tail, but completely immobile.  I couldn't see much after that.  The guy who hit it kept going and never stopped.  Had a brave neighbor not walked in the middle of the road to divert traffic, it would've been run over another two or three times.

my dog got killed in 2001 because some morning a latter day saint knocked on the door while everone was asleep, and so he ran to the door barking, and then he jumped on the door with his pawns

and then the moron thought someone wanted to hear him, so he _opened_ the door, but it made my dog fall down the stairs and howl in terror

at this moment I'm still sleepy, and I'm hearing the affair from my room in the basement, and go out to see the scene -- I see my dog falling down the stairs and the moron afraid of his actions that runs away, only to never be seen again

it was a bernese mountain dog, very caring dog and one of the cutest ones I've ever seen

i hear his last sad bark before he passed away, still memorably haunting today

and then my dog's cadaver was laying down my feet with his neck violently broken by the shocks, his urine flowing on the plywood

My first dog got hit by a car when she was a puppy. It was a cocker too. The guy that hit her kept driving. She survived, and went on to live a long, fruitful life.
