How are Alienware monitors?

Yes, it's a lazy-ass "google shit for me" thread. But I know you love giving shopping advice, PC overlords!

Tempted to get this. It's pricey and a bit undersized but it looks reasonably future-proof.

All I need for right now is a nice widescreen monitor for general use but I plan on getting a decent gaming PC later this year so want something that is ready for 3D and has a nice response time. Anything else out there that fits the bill?

Didn't even know Alienware made desktop monitors.

I'm partial to Sammy monitors myself.

I'm quite happy with the Asus monitor I got at the end of 2008.  25.5", 1920x1200, great image quality, fantastic refresh rate, VGA/DVI/Component/HDMI input, etc.  These monitors are the choice brand of fighting game players (who are incredibly anal about refresh rates on LCD monitors) and used in a lot of tournaments.  But I don't know if their latest offerings have 3D support.'

Still miss the I-O Data monitor I had back in Japan.  Everything looked so beautiful on it...wish I had shipped it over here.

I know there are a gazillion cheap and awesome monitors out there but I'm highly inclined to hold out for something with 120mhz support.

That Asus cost about as much as that Alienware monitor does now when I got it!  Now it sells for $309.99 (with a rebate for $70 off!) from Newegg.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236046&nm_mc=OTC-C173T&cm_mmc=OTC-C173T-_-Monitors+-+LCD+Flat+Panel-_-ASUS-_-24236046

Anyway, that Alienware monitor is certainly going to be better, but probably overpriced like most of their products.

yeah, I'm prepared for a little overpricing. If I knew that there would be a flood of cheap and great 120mhz monitors hitting the market soon, I'd certainly hold off. I've had the same monitor and PC for over 4yrs, what's another few months? But...I have no indication that that's going to happen. Married men must strike while the iron is hot i.e. before wifey decides to pull the plug on that new washing machine instead.

Well, $500 doesn't seem too bad.  The laptop I got from them several years back was $3200-- that felt just a tad overpriced for what I got.   :lol  And then I ended up replacing it with a MacBook.  Also at least $1000 too much.

Somehow I have been allowed to keep my crazy game-buying habits, but since getting married we have yet to purchase anything like home furnishings/appliances.  Soon my freedom will be at an end.   :'(

From my experience with them, their stuff may be expensive, but it's good quality and they had excellent customer service.  This was pre-Dell purchase though; I dunno how they are now.
