My DS Lite's touch-screen died :(
« on: January 27, 2010, 04:02:14 AM »
It's not working at all. :'(

I tried turning it on yesterday to use the My Japanese Coach thing and it just wasn't working.  Thought it might need to be recalibrated, and it's just not working AT ALL.  Fuck me.  It's like 4 years old but my old Game Boy and Game Boy Advance SP still work perfectly, and they're both way older than that.  :-\

I was never totally happy with this DS because it had a single dead pixel on the top screen (thankfully on top of the screen where it didn't really interfere with the games) and the A button recently had been acting kind of wonky (it was working but it didn't have the 'clickiness' the other buttons did, probably due to overuse), but still...I figured it'd last me for a few more years.  Lame.  This is the first Nintendo product aside from the original NES that's died on me.

I played a LOT of Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents on that thing.  :lol

I can afford a new one, it's just a pain in the ass because I believe the friends you have added on your games are tied to the DS you were using when you added them. :/

my ds phat touch screen still works but if i try to touch the center, the actual point that get touched is shifted a bit to the left or right so i can't play any game that requires actual precise touch input

Unsurprisingly, the ds line is the least sturdy hardware nintendo has ever produced.  I think I had two faulty units ever since 2004, or did it come out in 05? Whatever, its to be expected with a system you have to physically interact with.  Nintendo probably happy they found a system thats prone to replacing.  I have to wonder about the wii too though.  Surely waggling will eventually take its toll on the innards of a wiimote, yes?   Not to mention the slot loading drive and the flash wear and tear.

I think I'll just send this unit off to be repaired by Nintendo and give it to my sister when it comes back and buy a new one for myself.

I was gonna say send it to Nintendo with a heartbreaking note about how sad you were that it broke, and that it had a dead pixel, and see if they repair it for free.

Good idea! Can't hurt any, at least.

If I buy a replacement unit, I'm just getting another DS Lite.  DSi does not interest me and I want to be able to play all my GBA games.

Hit up Ebay. A new touch screen will set you back about 10-15$ and all you'll need is one of the cheap $2 screwdrivers they'll usually throw in. It's a stunningly simple fix if you've ever seen the inside of an iPod or a PC before. Basically unplug the old one, plug in the new one.

Why buy shoddy second hand parts when you can buy a brand new unit. Everyone loves that new machine smell.

The DS is still more reliable than the Wii.  The Wii is like LETS PACK EVERYTHING INTO THE SMALLEST FRAME POSSIBLE BECAUSE WE LIKE SMALL and the end result is overheating gpus and lasers dying (although the latter is a result of using cheap lasers).

My hinge broke on my DS. Still looking for a replacement shell. Never thought of ebay. I had seen them on the HK store, but didn't want to deal with overseas shipping.

The hinge on my old DS is cracked too.

...I went and bought a new DS Lite.  Got a crimson and black one.  That's just how us Hollywood Gamers roll. 8)

Not me.  It just happened during the course of normal wear and tear. :(
