. . . hasn't been out for a week  :lol

Smells like hot bullshit to me.

If you look at the numbers, it's actually sold-in, which is not the same as sell through. Although anyone who doubts Mass Effect 2 will pass two million worldwide is crazy. I think the actual estimates is that it will pass a million sell through by Saturday.

So 'sold in' is a fancy way of saying shipped?

The Fake Shemp

  • Ebola Carrier
Pretty much. The actual sell through numbers peg it a million worldwide by Saturday. It will easily surpass two million units sold.

After a strong critical reception and intense advertising campaign, Mass Effect 2 had an excellent opening day in the Americas. According to VGChartz preliminary estimates, around 500,000 copies of the game were sold on day one on Xbox 360 (PC sales were not tracked). Extrapolating for the week, total sales should surpass 700,000 in the Americas by Saturday. With a strong launch also expected in Europe (the UK especially), total sales by Saturday could be close to one million units worldwide on Xbox 360 - about it line with the launch of Fable II back in October 2008. The original Mass Effect sold 2.1 million copies on Xbox 360 in total and 400,000 in week one - Mass Effect 2 will comfortably outperform that.

EA has to be happy with that performance.

I'm surprised to see VGChartz shit being posted on this forum.

Anywho why would this be hot bullshit? It's a sequel to a very well received and high selling game, it has insanely positive reviews and word of mouth, a great marketing campaign, and it's space guys on XBox. Everyone on my FL is playing it.

Oh I'm not disputing nor doubting Mass Effect 2 will cross a Million worldwide- It's an awesome game that deserves success at retail.

What I'm saying is this deliberate misinformation needs to stop.

It's hot bullshit because Mass Effect 2 hasn't been out for a week in ANY territory, therefore claiming the title has sold 2 Million units in its first week is completely false.

It has most defiitely been out a week. Just because it went on sale on Tues doesnt mean it hasnt been in stores since. This is "shipped" after all.

What deliberate misinformation? The article indicates "sold-in" in its first two lines.

Dragon Age had almost none of the benefits ME2 had leading up to its release and it did 400k in its first month in the US alone.

Why make an issue of this? Wrong forum.

This.

Including general sales talk anyway outside of the npd thread. Who cares if they are lying or telling the truth or what a game sells anyway for that matter relative to game discussion.

Besides nearly everyone reports sells to retailers not sell through in the game industry. It's a pretty common practice. Who cares either way.

Ah, I see.

I didn't know we had officially agreed to replace "shipped" with "sold".

There's a difference between "sold in" and "sold through" and we did agree that they are two different things, that's why we call them two different things. I don't know what your agenda is (just kidding, you have a Mario avatar, your agenda is obvious) but either get with the program or pack your bags to a forum that will be more forgiving of your Sales Age bullshit.

Tag and bag this thread, it's done.

Who cares though?

In what world don't we expect corporations to either exaggerate or use whatever statistics put them or their products in the best light. It's like the people on GAF who get all upset when some marketing guy at Sony or Microsoft talks shit about the competing console.

That is their job.

Mass Effect 2 is a very good game.
Mass Effect 2 is going to sell many copies.
Mass Effect 3 will be released shortly.

Why try to spin this? What is there to even spin? Go back to GAF and take your faux butthurtness with you.

Mass Effect 2 has not been out for a week, so where exactly did they get the 2 million figure.

The only numbers they could possibly have at this point would be the shipment numbers, right? Then they should indicate this in the title of their PR release.

And in your mind you've successfully convinced yourself there's an agenda because I have the most popular videogame character of all time as my avatar.

Of course Mass Effect 2 is a very good game, I would give it an 8.5 out of 10 if I were reviewing it for an outlet.

But we're not talking about the quality of Mass Effect 2 here, I'd appreciate it if you stayed on topic  :D

What's wrong with you? What is your problem? What makes you so sick that you come to a forum on the Internet and feel a need to convince total strangers that the companies that make video games are lying to them about how many copies those games have sold?

You are new here. You don't know us. We don't know you. But instead of talking with us about games, or game companies, or anything based in the real world, you instead desperately try to reveal to us some grand conspiracy encoded in the titles of sales-related press releases. What? What are you doing? Who cares? What does this have to do with playing games, making games, loving games, or even hating games? Nothing. You are not talking about games at all. You are talking about numbers that do not exist.

This is a sickness. You are sick. Go away before you get us sick, too.

That is to say: fuck off.

I think you need to take a break from your internet detective role, because you're seeing things in reverse.

EA = Videogame company
Mass Effect= Videogame product.

I'm quite positive this thread is discussing something to do with videogames  :D

They printed and SOLD 2 million copies of the game to retailers. Whether or not the retailers are successful in selling it again is of no direct interest to EA or its shareholders.

Can you Nfucks find something besides sales to talk about? Why do I have to explain this to you?

I suppose posting anything that isn't a snapshot of a Mass Effect 2 bukkake is a big no-no, I'll get back to mining planets for minerals.

Of course it's amazing, I posted earlier how I would go back and mine some more planets and that's what I'm doing while reading the site.

I did it for the conspiracy nuts who think this thread was made to troll the game.

Smells like hot bullshit to me.
Smells like ignorance to me. :P

A little tip

Game x has sold y in first week usually refers to first few days,it has a lot to with the way the sales are tracked, combined with the release days, usually before weekends...
Not to mention that EA knows how some game is doing via retailer feedback and preorders are fulfilled in first few days.

A little example
On Monday Chart-Track will release its UK charts and ME2 sales will be refereed as first week sales or debut week sales despite the fact that ME2 was released on Friday in UK and tracker recorded "only" first two days.

It's not an NPD thread, but it's obviously a sales thread.

We don't take kindly to sales threads around these parts.

If you want to share your thoughts on Mass Effect 2 in the existing thread, feel free. But there's no need to threaten us with a "review."

Who said it was a sales thread, this started as a thread discussing the deliberately misleading nature of a PR release.

And concerning the bolded part; I'm seriously wondering whether or not you're joking. Because if you think posting a review is a threat then I honestly think you need some professional help.
