Or maybe it's taxes? Not sure.

Anyway, I just finished my efile and I sure do know how to take advantage of the awesome government program. You know, the one with the interest free savings account that you can't withdraw from but once per year.

$3631 fed, $586 state.

I think I'll blow it all on hats.

I've known my refund was going to be rather large for a couple of weeks, but I had to wait until today to get the last document I needed. Particularly the ability auto-import the daggum thing into TurboTax...

Paychex fucked up my entire company's W2s.  So I haven't been able to do my taxes yet, unforch.

I am hoping for a bit of a refund because I'd like to get a sideboard for our kitchen.

$2,663 back in taxes  :D

Being married and having additional withheld makes this the first time I've ever NOT paid.

I'm really hoping for something decent, though I don't expect much.  I guess we'll see.  So far I only have my ACS W2, and not my GameStop one.

I'm still waiting for a student loan interest statement to come in.  Then it is time to file.

I don't expect to get much back but it doesn't matter because it is all going to savings anyway.

Wife and I are getting back $4,921 this year. Already had free plane tickets to Tokyo thanks for frequent flier miles, so this will pay for everything else while we're there. :rock

It's funny, after inputting my pay for the year, Turbo Tax said we were getting back $4,700. Then we put in my wife's wages and we owed $2,700.  :o

Three cheers for mortgage interest, student loan interest, buying a new car and donations!

I did taxes for my sister in law.  She's a college student just working at McDonalds.  When I got her W2, I noticed she paid a total of 21 dollars in income tax this year (Her boss filled out her W4 and thought she had a child.  Haha).  We input her information and she was going to owe like 400 dollars.  She was all pissed and I reminded her that she still had school tuition and books to write off.  So I put that in and now she was getting 400 back.  Then Turbo Tax asked if she was a full time student and if both her parents were still alive.  I put yes and yes, and then bam... you get 21 dollars back :lol

That's a few hundred less than I MADE last year. George W. Bush took my chance (my financial aid for college) at making decent money and invaded Iraq with it.

Now my choices are:

Selling weed.

Joining the military.

Getting extremely lucky in a factory or union.

My hatred of Georgie boy is more potent than anyone other than myself can conceive.

Just got an email back saying they rejected our tax return and we need to fix it. The only thing I can figure is wrong (and different from last year) would have to do with my old car that I donated to a charity. We claimed the full $500 deduction for it, and I'm guessing we didn't do something right. Not claiming the car would drop our return by a whole $100, so no big deal if we have to.

They don't tell you in the email notification, you have to open up Turbo Tax to find out. We'll check it tonight when we get home from work.

Also, we bought the new car TWO DAYS before the government signed the bill for the new car tax credit, so we didn't get to claim it. We did get to claim it under state sales tax, but it wasn't nearly as much of a deduction.  :maf

Oh.  I would have gotten my return Friday but me being a dumb dumb, I put my birthday in the box for my wife's birthday.  So they rejected it.  Then I wasn't able to file it until I got home.  If I had filed it before 11am that day we would have gotten it Friday :'(

My appointment is on Saturday at high noon. I'm hoping for another $6k+ payday. We plan to get the house painted, pay off and close 2 credit cards, and reduce another loan in half. Things are looking up.  :)

While going through Turbo Tax this year, we noticed that you can write off home repairs and renovations...

We're renovating our unfinished basement this summer and probably dropping $25,000 in the process. That should help next year when doing taxes. :rock

That's going to be awesome for us.  We plan on redoing the bathroom, painting the outside and renovating one of the rooms into a home theater.

Filed ours late last week, so we should see ours Friday.  8)

Don't you boys get your hopes up on those home renovations being deductible. The only credits you can get right now for renovations are for really high energy-efficient improvements (exterior windows & doors, special roofing, solar, etc...), and kitchen/laundry appliances aren't included.

If we can't deduct it, no big deal. I'm more excited about having a kick ass basement. :rock

As long as you're doing it cause you wanna, and not cause you'll get that big ol' deedukshun, then we're good here. Save all your receipts though, because you could probably get by with using some of it for the credit (insulation, windows, etc.) :rock
