tales of vesperia
« on: February 06, 2010, 10:07:12 AM »
i just started the game this morning and dont know what to think
the graphics and stuff are amazing and colorful.
the main thing is i dont like how there's so much talking and every little action it stops the play.  for example, when i open the jail cell in the beginning it even has a stoppage there and some random talk.  why cant the door just open without that stuff?  it feels like everything you do drags on for an unnecessary amount of time. i just want to play the game

It's a good game, but there's a LOT of dialogue, and tons of optional skits (you stop in the middle of dungeons/towns to hear the characters talk about various topics...you can skip those, but they add to the characterization).  I don't know if Tales games are for you, man...if dialogue bothers you, Tales games have a LOT of dialogue - the charm of those games is the characters and how they interact with each other.

You've gotta remember, those games are designed for the Japanese market, and they are made so gamers (and Tales games have a big female following) will buy character goods.  That's one of the big elements of the series.

welcome to the fantastic world of todays jrpg.

i honestly love vesperia but the problem you described is persistent throughout the entire game and gets pretty damn bad at some points.

It's only a problem if you don't like that stuff.  Believe me, the target audience for the Tales series LOVES this stuff and wants as much dialogue as possible, hence the extra skits in the PS3 version of Vesperia (which unfortunately will never come out in the US)...

Yeah, I really enjoyed the game but the constant dialogue got a bit on my nerves. I just wanted to fight and kick ass and do puzzles in the dungeons and shit.
