Dead Space Extraction maybe coming to PSN/XBLA
« on: February 09, 2010, 12:13:45 AM »
Kind of cool. I wanted to play this but I was too lazy to gamefly it for the Wii (and rehook up my Wii). I would definitely do a purchase on XBLA as long as its $20 bucks or less.

Quote
Visceral Games' Dead Space 2 may not be the next game you play in the sci-fi franchise. Recent surveys point to an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network port of Wii misfire Dead Space Extraction and something brand new, Planet Cracker.

One survey's description of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 port of Dead Space Extraction indicates that any planned port of the game would feature the same on-rails "guided first-person experience" gameplay, pitched as an "interactive horror experience" in "full HD." A tentative price of $15 USD was mentioned in the survey forwarded to Kotaku.

Another title, known as Planet Cracker, was potentially more interesting. Described as a "resource strategy game where players will manage a CEC Mining operation," Planet Cracker focuses players on attempting to "maximize their daily profit" and "defending their hard-won ore from Space Pirates." Sounds like Ore Tycoon aboard the USG Ishimura.

Planet Cracker was billed in the survey as an extension to the story of Dead Space 2 and could yield "in-game rewards" for the retail version of the sequel, similar to the Fable II Pub Games that preceded Lionhead's role-playing game and netted players in-game gold.

Both Dead Space Extraction HD and Planet Cracker were listed a possible incentives for Dead Space 2 that could be unlocked to those who pre-purchased the game.

While the survey appears legitimate, EA's plans may change, so we're labeling this information as rumor until any official announcements are made. We've contacted Electronic Arts to get clarification but have not yet heard back.

I'd pick it up if it was $15, or even better, included as a pre-order incentive for Dead Space 2.

the weird thing is that I would have probably picked it up on the Wii if it was $15, but the lowest it was during sales was like $25.  If this really is $15 with better visuals, I'd pick it up.

Kewl.  It'd be nicer with a pointer but if it's 1200 or under I'm tempted.

How many MS points is USD$15?

Well technically you have Natal and Arc if they wanted to do such a thing but people seemed to have no problem playing Rez HD with the traditional controller.

I'll probably buy it if it controls well.

I heard Extraction never escalated its difficulty curve that far.  So removing pointer controls means that it will have the opposite effect of resi 4 wii.  It will be challenging now!

I recently finished it. Weak ending and final boss, but otherwise pretty decent.

Perfect title to launch with Natal.

Does anyone think of how natal is actually going to work without buttons?  At least with wii ports.

It'll work if you believe it will.

As someone who has played his fair share of wii games with borderline broken controls, no I don't believe natal is very capable.

Nobody's going to buy natal so discussing whether it'll work is moot.

Seriously, how the hell are you going to give commands with Natal? How does the system know when you want to shoot?
God, what a failure.

From what I've seen so far, yeah, pretty much.

With the Wiimore and the Sony thing you can give commands by pushing buttons.

How do you want to pull the trigger in a Natal game? I don't think Natal is advanced enough to even detect finger movements. What's the frikking use then?
Natal looks nothing more than a glorified Eye Toy so far...

Natal and the Glowing Dildo will both tank.

Anyways, I'll buy this game for 1200 pts.  Although I suspect they'll pull a boner and release it for 1600 pts.

Which sounds completely useless except for most passive uses.

The Natal thing about "no buttons and no controller" while I can imagine having some uses for very casual Wii-Fit style application and novelties seems absolutely terrible for most style games outside of racing games, or the skateboarding demo they showed.

Of course I'm willing to be proven wrong if they introduce some killer apps.

I love iphone gaming but having "virtual" buttons dictates which pieces of software most appropriately fit the design for that system. Having no buttons will effectively highly limit the design of a lot of games as gestures will now need to replace buttons. Or some bizarre scheme where I use the traditional control and Natal (which seems impossible unless the game is somehow turn based or pauses itself)

I know, but that's like using a PS3 controller for a tennis racquet - it's so bad no reasonable person would consider it a solution.

Just make a finger gun and yell out "bang" to shoot.

Come on people, I already spelled it out for you. This is your Natal future.

At least one man is prepared for the Natal future:

So the best of Wii Hollywood gaming (emulation) become arcade games on real systems. That's cute.
