My folks asked me to autograph one of my screenplays for Christmas, but it honestly makes me feel like a douche - rather than flattered. I'm just a hack! I'm not even Gary Whitta, yet.

You're just saying that because I am this forum's Gary Whitta!

... I'd hire Whitta if we got the budget we're looking for. It'd be good business. We'd be able to bill an episode: "FROM THE WRITER OF THE BOX OFFICE HIT, THE BOOK OF ELI!"

Maybe we could get Denzel! :o

Naw, I'm not a kissass like those GAF dummies.  If it looked like crap, I would just avoid the thread.  The concept sounds awesome and the promo has me hyped.

Could you get Joe Dante to direct one of the episodes? "From the director of GREMLINS and THE HOWLING!" Plus, he also did worked on The Twilight Zone and Amazing Stories so he has the background to do anthology work.

I hadn't seen this thread before -- the teaser looks pretty cool.  Hearing that it's supposed to be web-only and have TV production values makes me very nervous.  People on the internet want dumb short-form garbage like The Guild, or at best something kooky like Dr. Horrible.  Comedy seems to work well, but I don't know about horror/thriller/suspense.  I would give Netflix a call and see if they are interested in any original programming -- that way people would at least have the opportunity to watch it in their living room where they can be more drawn in.  Now that I think about it, Netflix could pretty easily become the HBO of the internet if they actually wanted to invest in some shows.

That said, I am always hoping that someone will make another great sci-fi/horror anthology series.  The Twilight Zone is one of my favorite shows of all time, and Tales from the Darkside was usually pretty good as well.  I also loved The Hitchhiker because it had a lot of breasts in it and I was 9 years old.  Did you happen to see The Box?  Up until the point where it becomes completely and totally stupid, it's a pretty good take on Twilight Zone (complete with the overwrought symphonic score).

When you say you are in charge of developing the mythos, does that mean you intend to have a serialized arc for the frame story?

Joe Dante is a very distinct and real possibility. I personally know his director of development (she's one of my Facebook buddies!) and I've dealt with him indirectly before. I'd love to work with Dante, and it's not like he's untouchable in terms of salary demands.

Eh, I think the only thing that has been properly marketed towards Internet audiences (in terms of stuff developed for the web) has been dumb, short-form garbage and narcissistic humor. I think the fact that a lot of people watch and purchase television shows on the Internet is proof enough that there is a market for this stuff, but people are only going to watch and/or buy it if it is television quality.

Marketing is the biggest hurdle for a lot of these productions, and something that we intend to address - aggressively. It boggles me that something as slick as The Bannen Way could be launched through the Sony umbrella, and major media outlets did not even receive press kits. Press kits! Those things hardly cost anything!

... We've been looking into Facebook and Google advertising, and both of those are economical. Radio/television is not insanely cost prohibitive. So marketing has actually been allocated into the budget that is being used to pitch the series.

I don't want to go into detail about Netflix or Hulu or any other big online content providers, other than to say that we're all very aware of their presence and are actively involved and/or trying to open discussions with them. It wouldn't be wise of me to say much more beyond that.

I would hope so, since it was based on a Twilight Zone episode! I haven't see it, though. I probably check it out once it hits Netflix. Everyone involved are devout Matheson fans, so we'll probably view even the lamest of adaptations.

This is correct. There's a lot more to the character of Cole Kirwin and the part he plays in all of this. While each episode has a unique story, we hope to develop an arc for the projectionist himself. In fact, the first episode I wrote really changes the status quo in regards to his character. I guess there is still debate about whether it should serve as a finale or mid-season episode.

looks awesome. is it going for a 50s Americana feel? coz I fucking love that aesthetic.

the guy who shot the teaser looks like a very capable director - is he gonna shoot most the eps?

I'm quite excited for this: the macabre feel, the setting - I really hope it takes off. It would be cool if you can focus on some auxillary "normal people" characters to bring out the time-period a bit more - like a suprising domestic dispute in idyllic family just before the husband goes missing; like something out of a Richard Yates book. I dunno, I'm rambling. Is this projectionist guy gonna have a seemingly "normal" personal life, or is he always gonna be this enigmatic other-worldly mystery?

I believe the goal is to make it feel "timeless", so it doesn't feel like it belongs to any particular era, although the aesthetic is obviously going for something mid-century.

Stewart Hopewell is a very capable director. I mean, he directed a film you can buy and rent, which is about as good as it gets. The goal is to have him direct three episodes of a ten-episode run, but we'll see. He's a busy guy, with his own stuff.

The only time you'll see Cole Kirwin (The Projectionist) is inside or right outside the State Theater, and his background is definitely an other-worldly mystery that we'll begin to slowly unveil. I appreciate the kind words, and I pass them along to everyone at ground zero.

I know the producers have a few neat things in store for the Interwebs shortly enough, while all the financial wrangling is going on. And I know they were not too happy with some recent talks, and I believe we'll going to pull back a little and reconstruct a new business plan.

I really hope it works out. Getting the finance always sounds like the toughest hurdle to overcome for filmmakers. Plus this project is gonna be presented in a new format, so I imagine that would incur extra trepidation from financiers.
