Biggest game release ever, biggest pirated game ever, biggest number of camp friendly levels ever. Is there no statistic MW2 can't obliterate?

Good games don't have to be afraid of piracy....

GTFO :rofl :rofl :rofl
Good games as "good" and appealing to your userbase, yeah you could make a game that has artistic and review stamp on it,but if it doesn't appeal to userbase, nobody will care, not even pirates.

Uuuh yeah it is mate.

A quick look at Wikipedia says that's not really the case. There is apparently some kind of legal leeway in terms what the owner of a copy of a licensed work may do with his copy, and I'm guessing he is allowed to upload that for piracy - but that doesn't mean you get to download whatever you want for free. :lol

People will pirate whatever they want as long as they can, quality has nothing to do with it. Anybody who thinks otherwise is being naive.

You guys are just morally bankrupt. Just 'fess up.
Yeah, it's taking something without paying for it and there's no way to defend it as ethical, but I just get a kick out of how these companies act like this is money being taken right out of their pockets. I'm willing to bet that most regular pirates are either filthy poors or underage -- neither of whom are gonna be buying many games in the first place. There isn't really a tangible way to estimate just how much it hurts the industry because you don't know who would have made the purchase had piracy not been an option, so morons like the blogger in the OP exaggerating the damages are way off base.

And it definitely shouldn't be equated to stealing a unique, irreplaceable object like a fuckin Ferrari unless you're one of those distinguished mentally-challenged fellows that lauds life sentences for piracy

You are very wrong there, why would someone waste its bandwidth,or in 360 case pay for discs if the game isn't quality and doesn't appeal to them???
I live in some place in Europe, its basically a piracy land, piracy talk is normal even on official gaming magazines forums and believe me people there play less games than you do and they could pirate everything...

The type of person who spends hundreds of dollars every couple years on PC hardware would know how to pirate games.  I don't see why somebody who has no problem pirating a game would choose to go out and buy a game (even if it's really, really good) if they could just download it.

By that logic, people wouldn't buy used games.

I dunno, I think the pirates that buy REEL GUD GAMES out of some moral obligation are definitely a minority. Your average schmuck doesn't have such a nuanced code of ethics, they just think FREE STUFF HOLY SHIT AWESOME DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD. Otherwise MW2 wouldn't have been pirated so many times :lol

Any normal human being who can get something for free instead of paying for it takes the free route.

The exceptions are.

A.) People who live by some strict moral code on the issue. (not many)
B.) If there is some hint of illegality that has a real chance of biting the person in the ass. (a larger number probably)
C.) It's complex or the person just doesn't have the knowledge to do it.  (an even larger number probably)

There is also always the double-stand that pirating music is okay but pirating videogames is verboten.

Obviously the reality is that a large group of people need to buy things or people will stop making them. But regular people don't live their lives based on what works for capitalistic  theory.

Your best bet for reducing game piracy is to include multiplayer or community support where by the consumer feels like he is missing out on something if he doesn't do a lot of work to get that extra content.

I have never said that pirates would buy games like crazy, not going to happen, stopping piracy would have little affect to that, industry is wrong if it thinks that way.
But if you like online then games with strong online components are a must buy even for pirates, especially on 360.

I was thinking more about leak influence on people that wanted to buy that specific game, internet is very powerful today.

If people will get shit for free, they will.  This is obvious.

This isn't just limited to games.  I recall the myriad of excuses as to why CD sales collapsed earlier last decade; every reason other than piracy was brought up.  What?  Like Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears were such great albums that sell 10 million each but somehow better and well promoted music struggles to hit Gold sales status a year or two later?  Not likely.

I will pirate whatever I can but I'm not going to pretend like it isn't having a significant negative impact on the industries it infests.  Nor will I pretend like me downloading an MP3 is a triumphant strike against the exploitative music industry.  I just want shit for as little cost as possible sans self righteousness.

Wah, wah, piracy.

Same arguments for the last decade. Just let it go.
