I'm guessing a sequel to Gun is completely out of the question now (if it wasn't already.)

Oh, well. Read Dead...

I dunno though, the music game scene in Japan has been around since the 90s and is still pretty consistent.  The releases are much more spread out, and genre decay still really hasn't take effect despite only minor improvements made with each new installment.
Spread out? I'm sorry, Beatmania IIDX is on its 17th release on the PS2.

The problem with Guitar Hero last year is that after World Tour, Metallica was a small step up, but Van Halen and Smash Hits did absolutely NOTHING, so it was boring as fuck to play. No improvements, same UI, same base characters and shit.

GH5/BH was perfect, but they didn't need both. They just did way too much. When I GET people to try GH5 they're amazed, but by this point, they just assume it's all the same.

Beatmania IIDX came out in like 1999.  17 releases over 11 years isn't exactly overkill considering it's a genre that gets stale if the songlist doesn't get updated on a regular basis.  Maybe Konami knows how to spread releases properly enough so that people don't get bored of the games, but not release them so often that it suffers genre decay.

Yeah, that and Singstar ARE better paced, with constant upgrades, no less.

GH just got fucking greedy. While Guitar Hero: Metallica got a minor upgrade, Smash Hits and Van Halen were fucking carbon copies AND the old games don't get patched, so you never see GAME-BREAKING BUGS ( http://5frets.com/264/guitar-hero-5-expert-drum-glitch-will-never-be-fixed/#more-264 ) get fixed.

Add that to fucked up export, and yeah, the fans leave.
