Netflix on the 360
« on: February 17, 2010, 01:55:59 PM »
...is it honestly worth it? How quick are they with getting new releases? faster then torrents? (DVD releases only, cam vids suck asshole, waste of time and bandwidth).

What do you guys think of it? I know some of you have it and use it because I see you!!! (on xbox) :P

Just looking for opinions. I wont order any actual DVDs via netflix, f all that. But streaming it for me has potential.

I use it on the PS3 since I don't have XBL Gold.  But it's pretty rockin on the PS3.  Good quality, good selection.  Ass interface on PS3.  But definitely worth it.

The streaming selection is limited but its great for what is there or if you have broad tastes. Its the reason why I have Netflix. I don't even actually get actual discs from them.

It's pretty awesome. New releases are spotty, simply because that'd kill the industry, but they do have a some new television the day after its aired. $8.99 per month gets you the streaming service, plus one DVD out at a time. That deal is pretty awesome.

They got a lot more HD content now, as well. Anyone notice they threw up a lot of Criterion collection stuff in HD? I think I even saw Caligula in HD!

it frustrates me because you only have 100 movies per genre and not all genres are present

you need to use the computer to load your queue up to ensure you can see all the videos present

I still like it pretty good.  Dad's using it to get (and rip) old westerns on dvd he hasn't seen in forever, and I use the instant queue to kill boredom on my 360.

Eh, we actually watched streaming content on my friend's PC when I was in Los Angeles last summer, and the content looked better on his roommates' Xbox 360/HDTV - for obvious reasons.

So it seems, a lot of you think it's actually worth it? I may try it out... Honestly, I would like to see the Gold Membership on 360 offer a lot more content. I don't think it offers enough content for the price personally. I mean I got gold mem on that $39/year deal. Not bad, but still think there should be more to it. Music videos cost?? really? do people seriously buy music videos? that's distinguished mentally-challenged. (like the Palin kid, amirite? lawwwllzz :lol)

If they add do something like "old" Hulu, then it wouldn't be too bad. It'd be nice to be able to watch tv shows on the 360 like on Hulu. It'd give more people a reason to blow money on a gold mem... just my opinion though.

360/PC - looks the same to me.  Personally, I hate watching movies on my PC even though I've got a 28" monitor and a crazy sound system but it is easier finding movies on the PC because the netflix website is easier to navigate around....but then you can just add them to your queue and watch them on your TV so it's a wash.

Really?  I find Netflix on the PS3 to be not even worth requesting the disk.  Ass quality, ass selection.  The SD stuff is almost unwatchable and the HD stuff looks like normal TV quality SD.  Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Maybe.  HD looks pretty great on my tv.  I usually just run it out of my queue that I make online or browse random suggests for shits and giggles or MST3k episodes I happen to miss.  Works pretty great for me.

but on the realz, the quality seem to take a hit during peak hours. there is a noticeable improvement in hd content when streaming during early morning hours vs prime time. the hd content still doesn't look great though.

HDMI to TV and a wireless mouse :rock

The navigation on the 360 is both good and bad, although mostly bad. The selection thing sometimes shows stuff I wouldn't have considered otherwise so that's cool, but going through the linear library is so incredibly shit.

I have never noticed HD quality taken a hit during "peak hours" and I certainly don't think the quality would be dependent on Netflix's end. Maybe your wireless network sucks?

Before I purchased a new router and made the correct settings, Netflix used to choke on my old Netgear.

It has potential but when I had it, it was chock full of crappy documentaries.
