The mario trailer is the sexiest thing I've ever seen.  Also the music sounds like one piece.

Orchestrated music is being implemented in SMG2 btw.

Game looks great, but even as huge Mario cigarillo, I can't seem to get as excited over this as the original.

Because the first one was something new and original [relatively, of course], while this is just a sequel. See: Bioshock.

Dude, there's no way it cost more than $50 to make that.

I can't imagine anyone even thinking to buy this. The PPI on those screens is terrible. I wouldn't get a DSi XL if it was for free.

I want to see it in person first. After spending time with the PSP, Palm Pre, and pretty much every other device on the planet, the DS looks fucking ugly and their new model makes it MORE apparent and RAISES the price? Nintendo just doesn't give a shit anymore.
Why should they when their fans this gen happily buy whatever garbage they put out?

I like how today was some big media day when all they did was announce release dates for titles that we all new existed.
(Aside from the new 100 book collection Nintendo is putting out for $20! Keep milking that royalty-free bullshit, Big N!)

It's probably because you know it will be an awesome game.  You can say you knew Mario Galaxy 1 would be awesome, but that's a lie.  You no longer need to use obnoxious amounts hype to mask skepticism.  Secretly nerds love the gamble of whether or not a game will be that good.

Like, it would require a lot of energy to make the game suck.  At worst I'm expecting it to be slightly worse than Galaxy 1, at best on par.

In all honesty, the LL doesn't really look that bad.  Friend of mine bought one and I was really impressed at how well it scales the graphics.  Also helps a lot when playing Japanese games since you can actually make out complicated kanji, although I doubt most people care about that, heh.  Either way, they did a pretty good job with it, but I wouldn't necessarily upgrade from a different DS for it.

Some math...

At this new size, each pixel is 1/3mm by 1/3mm. Surprisingly round number after the math.

DSi XL is 76 PPI

By comparison: (Higher is better)

Droid: 265
iPod Nano: 204
iPhone: 163
PSP: 128

I don't know much about specs or shit, and obviously the DSLL won't look nearly as good as other systems.  I'm just saying that when I look at it, the system looks fine, it's not an overblown mess like I expected when I heard the concept.

Do you like rail shooters?  It is a rail shooter with crazyyyyyyyyyyy theme park ride levels and non-stop variety of super creative gameplay scenarios.  They take the basic SLASH/SHOOT/DODGE and make like a dozen original game design ideas out of it.  Most of the boss fights are top-notch and there's like 434235325 of them.  Plus the game is damn long for a rail shooter.  6-7 hours.  60fps is very nice too, especially since the game looks great.

There's one stage I thought was kinda weak, but otherwise the game is imo the best rail shooter and best treasure game to date.

I haven't played a new rail shooter since Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Rail shooters were my favorite genre as a kid, next to platformers and arcade racers.

Thinking of the possibilities of rail shooters on the wii is the main reason I got a wii at launch aside from Zelda.

And here I am, 3 years after launch and SP2 is the only fucking rail shoter on the system.

I hate my life.

SMG2 definitely looks like an expansion pack type of game but since I thought the first one was fucking awesome, the second one will probably be decent at the very worst case.  Best of all, it is June, allowing me to re-Wii at a Walmart late at night when nobody is looking as opposed to being out in the frigid cold, standing in line for a half hour like the first time I bought one.

Also the reason why there is no Virtua Cop compilation is because nobody has cared about it since the mid 90s.  It'd just cater to a small set of gamers and it is unlikely that the Sega of today would do such a thing.

Seriously, I always laugh when people yell for old games to be brought back (especially SEGA releases), but when they are, people complain about them for either playing too old or changing too much.  See Nights, the new Daytona, Sega Rally, etc...no one cares about them now except for a few vocal "fans" who probably won't buy the new games anyway.  You might as well just ask for Sky Target to be revived while you're at it, that's more of a rail shooter than Virtua Cop is and is just as relevant of a series now.

HOTD had always been a strong franchise, and still gets regular arcade releases.

If you want to play VC so bad, just download the PC versions and do the Wiimote hack thing to emulate the mouse.

So after looking over everything I have to say the only things that stand out to me are

-Monster hunter 3 is free online with wii speak support.  Its receiving a big push as well as a demo being distributed
-some awesome art style series games
-new warioware for wiiware fuck yes
-sin and punishment 2 being localised

I'm very much cold on super mario galaxy 2 and other m.  the xl is kind of appealing to me since I only ever used the ds at home, and I want to pick one up for some of the connectivity functions with the wii.

I WISH you talked into your wiimote, coulda made the wiimote a nice impromptu karaoke controller.  I prefer the wiispeak implementation if only because I find the whole 'account required to use microphone' aspect of Xbox live whack, but my limited experience with wiispeak had echo issues.  Also, you can leave messages like live with the wiispeak channel, but you have to physically go into the channel to check your messages and no one uses it.  In general Nintendo's hesistance to expand their online feature set makes it more of a gimmick than a useful feature.

But I might give MH3 a shot since the online is free and I've never really played MH much.  Still would rather get into it on PC/PS3/X360 where I could play online with friends & headsets but dunno if they will ever get a real one with free online.

Why does that Metroid game look like a Dreamcast title?

Oh, and MCG, do you really think that a mainline, Nintendo-developed Star Fox title would bomb? The last one they made was Star Fox 64, which sold millions. Since then, all we've had was an adventure spinoff and another title that didn't really feel like a Star Fox game and that Nintendo didn't even develop.

I think a true successor to Star Fox 64 would do quite well.
