the new details about prinny 2 are awesome and spoilerish so i'm going to put them in a spoiler in case somebody comes later just to post "OMG YOU SPOILING SPOILED SPOIL" or something like that :smug
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Some unspecified time in the past, Asagi got herself killed and reincarnated as a Prinny (eh, it happens). She's made herself a home in the Underworld with the former angel Flonne. One day as they're watching the telly, the news announces the start of the Asagi Wars, a reality TV battle royale. The winner will be declared the one, true Asagi and will receive the title of Protagonist. Prinny Asagi is determined that this time, she'll get the attention she deserves. To battle! She just has to defeat....

Kurosugi Asagi, pop-singing sensation.

Asagi Schwarze-Nature, super macho machine gunner.

The Accursed Asagi Doll (and her giant robot, too!).

Asagi the Beetle!

Asagi of the Dead!

And 8-bit Famicom magical girl heroine Asagi!

did i mention that the original prinny is still one of the most awesome psp game evah? :smug

Prinny was pretty bad. I removed it from my memcard after 10 minutes of gameplay. Maybe less. But it was enough to conclude that the game was not for me.

Asagi is awesome.  Asagi Mode looks to be metal Slug clone whereas Prinny mode is GnG clone.
Also, I hope somebody actually buys these games.  I can vouch that Prinny is good and N1 does not deserve to die.

Classic Dungeon outsold Last Rebellion 3 to 1 and outsold Sony's Patchwork Heroes.
That's the way it should be.

What's so great about these games?  From what I've seen, they're I Wanna Be The Guy-style games with a frustrating difficulty curve for the sake of it.  Watching videos of the last boss battles also make it seem like more of a test of endurance instead of real skill.

I'm all for challenging platformers, but I hate games that are unfairly super-hard for the sake of it.

It's not too punishing.  You get 999 lives and it checkpoints after every jump.  It takes some actual skill, but it makes it easy and painless.  Trials HD is very similar in that it's really hard and challenging platformer but it checkpoints after every jump and makes the challenge painless.  The level design is really good and if you are good at it you can get through the stages untouched.

The last boss is an exception.  He's not hard but he requires a lot of square tapping and he was dumbed down for the US version to require less.

I really liked the first Prinny but I thought the level designs were pretty... generic? I'm not sure but I thought they were very predictable and uninspired in the way they were constructed. The bosses were good though and the gameplay was a lot of fun. I'd take GnG over Prinny any day but this is still pretty good.

Prinny 2 also has the best title ever.

I liked the level designs because each checkpoint was a specific challenge.  You took it a step at a time and after a few tries (or a lot of tries) you conquered it.  I also thought the bosses were pretty decent.  It helps that the story/writing is silly fun.
And yeah, I prefer GnG in general, but I think I liked Prinny1 more than UGnG.  UGnG looked really nice, but by the end I found it kinda lacking (played the original with the item hunt, not the better version later released)

You make your own vocal theme song
You drive Monster Trucks
You fly in the air using balloons
You swing across stages like Bionic Commando

Yeah, I think they'll remove them.  They're just equipment to change your character to look like them.

Finished Classic Dungeon in about 20 hours.  Game is very, very strange.  It's like an indie game where they make 5 levels and hope to get picked up to make a full length game except in shiren x disgaea rogue form.  It's really really unorthodox and low on content, but at the same time it's probably the most addicting dungeon crawler I've ever played.  Would recommend for $20-25 when it comes to the US.

I love the art direction in the N1 titles, but I could not fathom why I'd want to pound my dick into a paste by playing PRINNY. The difficulty level was set to maximum frustration.

Yeah, I can't beat those old GnG games and I beat Prinny.  Checkpoints ftw

Nope and not much in terms of cameos either.  You get a Prinny axe and that's about it.
The main story (not that there is much of a story) is pretty short and only covers lvl.1->30.  Then it's just random dungeon runs as long as you want.  You get something for beating the 99 floor random dungeon, but it gets insanely difficult.  I can make it to like floor....24.

I didn't think Prinny was that hard. It was frustrating at times, but I beat it.

Classic Dungeon is by the Soul Cradle/Nomad team.  They are apparently at System Prisma, so don't anymore unorthodox srpgs from N1 :|  They will all be in the Disgaea style.

Welllll, if N1 falls I dunno how they will get financing  :lol
And N1 owns them 100%, so I'm pretty sure N1 would have to destroy the team or sell them off in that case.

Nice link, btw. I bookmarked for use if I ever get back into running tabletop RPGs. Lots of easy-to-use storytelling shorthand there.

Got my Prinny 2 and it came with a ASAGI WARS movie ticket :o  Let's you go directly to Asagi Wars game without having to play Prinny 2!  Also came with full reversable cover so it is 100% ASAGI WARS THE GAME :o :o

Also a top-secret strategy guide that is stapled together so you don't open it until you've beaten the game.

Metal Slug clone instead of a GnG clone like Prinny.  Separate full length mode with its own story, gameplay, bosses.

Asagi was supposed to be the main character in Makai Wars, the srpg N1 was working on for PSP when PSP first launched.  For whatever reason they canned the game and since then Asagi has been cameo-ing in every N1 game trying to kill the lead character and take their place as the new lead so she can finally have her own game.  Now her dream is almost realized in Asagi Wars, lead character war.

The main difference in Prinny 2 seems to be the break mode.  When you fill your combo meter from butt stomping or gathering sweets you get a lightning flash and enter break mode.  There are 3 types of break mode that you can cycle between on the inter-stage menu.  The starting one gives you:

-3x damage to your attack power
-R+[] = SUPER AWESOME DIVE SLASH that blows through a whole line of enemies killing them in 1 hit
-The hold O spin turns into PRINNY TORNADO where you do damage to enemies as you spin through them

Also now there are breakable blocks and switches that do stuff.

Otherwise seems the same.  6 stages in any order, each increasing difficulty when you finish one.  All the moves from the first game are back.  The manual mentions you can triple jump using a wall, which I'm pretty sure is new.

Sprites seem better.  The opening scrolls up Etna's castle and there are tons of cool Prinny sprite animations of them doing their daily life along the way.

Will try Asagi Wars tonight.  Need to hook my PSP up to my PS3 and download the unlock key.

Asagi Wars doesn't really feel like Metal Slug.  Feels like Prinny but with guns.

Basically you have 6 weapons (shotgun, turret gun, rocket launcher, flame thrower, power drill, knife) and each has a limited ammo count.  Like the rocket launcher only gets 5 shots, while the shotgun gets like 1500.  The ammo doesn't replenish when you die, but it does replenish the first time you get to a boss.  Bosses seem kind of hard/easy.  Hard to land butt stomps to get them open for attack, but once you do they are super easy because you have so much weaponry they die in like 5 seconds of shooting.

Story is that there is a competition to become the real main character and 6 fake Asagi are competing so you have to go beat them all and become the main the character.

Prinny mode feels harder than the first game.  Not that the stages are more brutal than before, but I remember Prinny1 having checkpoints after every difficult part like Trials HD.  In Prinny 2 the checkpoints feel further apart and you often have to get through more than 1 section between them.  Makes it a lot tougher.
