What's the best Suda game to play for someone who has never played any of his stuff?

I will be surprised if you like any of the games he is credited on. Maybe Contact.

Yuck and yuck.

Killer 7 and if you like it No More Heroes 1.  Shadows of the Damned isn't even directed by Suda, and Contact is a boring rpg.  Alternatively The Silver Case re-release just came out but I haven't played it through so I can't vouch for it.

Fwiw, Suda games not directed by Suda are very distinctly not Suda.  They might be in that style but it's night & day when you play a game Suda actually wrote & directed himself.

Suda didn't direct NMH2 btw.  I thought it lacked a lot of the great style of the first game, but yeah it played better.

Suda51 used to be a videogame director.  No More Heroes 1 however was the end of his career.  After that he moved to a general producer position and kinda oversees a little a bunch of other people making games.  I have a feeling he's never going to direct a game again.  I was a fan of Suda51 as a game director since he was nuts and creative, as a producer I'm not really a fan of any of his group's games although Let it Die is a great game even if it's not Suda51 crazy.

He directed NMH2.

Just didn't take the credit and wanted to foster his team. He was and still is genuinely passionate about supporting his team and wants them to shine.

He also agrees NMH2 is better than 1.

NMH2 was a better game in terms of actual game compared to NMH1 since the combat was way more fun and aggressive (Once you learn how to Darkstep in NMH1, that's 90% of the combat system as you practically got free kills compared to NMH2 were enemies could dodge out of it and it took way more effort to cheese the system) along with more playable characters. But it lost the quirkyness of NMH1 and the whole menial aspect of having to go find jobs, fuck around in the open world bit to find new moves and them pay the entry fee was unique at the time instead of just selecting it from a menu.

I guess it all depended what you thought about the combat. And cat diet mini games.

There's something off about NMH2. I can't describe it. I'm sure it's a better game, but I guess there's something about a Grasshopper games and how they all have some sort of deliberate crappyness to them. Things in the gameplay and even story that are there to foster some sort of tone and yet be unfun. In NMH the jobs were lame, but honestly Travis is a lame edge lord. Yet from the gameplay, structure, and story the game knew that. It all kind of came together to create this kind of critique on otaku wank fantasy. Also I believe the actual bossess were better.

I enjoyed playing NMH2, but I did'nt really like the game pandering stuff. Playing as other characters to pander gamers to make it more meaty did'nt really do anything to me. Pandering to gamers to make the downtime more fun did'nt do anything for me as I did'nt care for the retro inspired mini games. The lame jobs from the first one were easy and to the point. Also the story itself was too celebratory.

4-6 are all good. most people hate the cheap remake graphics on 5 and 6, by they look fine tbh and all the gameplay is intact.

1-3 i wouldn't bother with on phones. 1 and 2 have been made braindead easy, and the remake of 3 in any version just sucks. 1 and 2 have good remakes on ps1, and really the only good way to play 3 is on an nes emulator.

Did SWERY 65 give up game development? I just heard he stepped down from Access Games due to health concerns or something and it's fucking sad to me.

Also reminds me how fucking lucky the other numbered Japanese game dude, Suda 51, has been. It's kinda amazing how you jumps from project to project with seemingly little blowback considering how niche his game's appeal are and how they always sell like shit. Dude must have naked pictures of corporate elites or something.
Dude's on twitter and pretty much an open book. He added me there and on Facebook, so he'll probably add anyone.  :-[
He's had ongoing health stuff he's talked about on twitter. I don't think he intends for it to be permanent. If I could describe how horribad the Japanese development environment generally is, you'd probably hope the guys stays healthy and stays quit.

Strange, can't find anything on it.

It was a pretty great experience, they had a ton of really obscure game, consoles, and development kits of all kinds. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's even remotely interested in old games.

Yeah if you look at the original trailer it seemed less about oni and shit and more about an actual blonde Half Japanese samurai. A far more grounded Japanese samurai game.

I've been working on a Doom2 mappack (I'm targeting 5 levels in total) on and off during vacations for the past few years.

I'm using GZDOOM + BrutalDoom to playtest it, I'm planning to go for an atmosphere over bodycount design, I'm going for a Quake 2 level design aesthetic.  I also want to mod-in on-screen dialogs that will popup on the doom guy helmet, but this will require learning the scripting system so it might not be ready for a long time.

Anyway, sorry for the oversized screenshots

That would be one way (install them all, import the install into Galaxy, have it update)... Hm.

I've now found a way to check though. Someone (who apparently owns the entire store library :psyduck) has created a search engine for GOG games, with some very useful features.

They show for me on both the site and Galaxy. Where are you downloading them from?

For the The Witcher 3 at least I found the standalone install is different enough from the Galaxy version that it had to re-download the entire game. So I now just install games from Galaxy and have them update there when I like, and occasionally downloading the standalone installs as backups.

The website. WTF.

OK. I only spot checked some yesterday. Looked at more more today and some do show version numbers, some don't. :wtf System Shock 2 and Trine show them and have a changelog. Saints Row 2 only shows (GOG-5), which is meaningless to me, but I assume it's the 5th revision? Outcast 1.1 seems to confirm this, as it shows version numbers for patches, one older as GOG-22, the newer one as GOG-23. Planescape Torment, no, but does have a changelog. Septerra Core, yes. Sanitarium, no.

Still not seeing any logic in what does and doesn't get a version number. Fuck it.

GOG does hotfixes that they don't always post anything for.

Saints Row 2 is actually a good example, they added a 30fps cap to it and did something else that messes up Gentleman of the Row. Lots of complaining on the forum since the GOG version was the superior version of the game for a while as they had done the CPU fix to it.

If I want to play Super Mario Maker and I don't care about the online portion and just want to play the pre-made levels, should I just pick up the 3ds version over the Wii U version?  I was looking at some comparisons and visually they both look identical in all the styles except the NSMB 3d style which looks way cleaner on Wii U.  3DS has portability though and is cheaper and has more pre-made levels.
