I watched a bunch of 3S tournament clips a few years back and parrying Chun's super was very common, at least among Japanese players.

I've gone from a bit of a drought to being swamped with new games.

Yakuza 0
Gravity Rush 2
Nioh

Nier Automata in March

Persona 5 in April

Probably Injustice 2 in May

Tekken 7 in June

It's just dark souls.  Kill some easy dudes, get xp, go back and level up, do this a couple of times to gain a few levels, then go as far as you can before dying, turn around and go back and use the xp to level up and you'll keep getting further and further as you get stronger and stronger.  It's a good formula, it works and is fun, but it's pretty straightforward.  It's only offputting if you don't go back and use your xp to level up.

It seems fun, and at least it seems to have actual progression of a story/single player. Finally a use for my Platinum Points on My Nintendo

I played through the first five story chapters yesterday and it's okay. I should probably play Fates Conquest or Fates Revelation instead.

It's quite similar to Final Fantasy Record Keeper and that game got old after a couple of weeks. Combat is too simple and with the tiny maps there isn't much room for strategy. I'm currently using a party of samurai, healer, archer and dragon. AI seems to always attack the closest target and I can often lure them into a situation where they can only hit one of my units, and then I can heal that unit every turn.

No mention of Dead or Alive Ultimate (for 1 Saturn port and 2 port with Hitomi included along with looking really good). :wtf

If he mods his X-box, he could just download an iso of Metal Wolf Chaos and install it to the drive. It's not that hard to softmod the X-box. But I dunno if "xbins" is still around.

Phantom Dust is a must have, IMO. But it's getting a PC port (and re-releasing on X-box) before E3. So in like... 4-5 months or so if you can wait around. It'll pretty much be a straight-up port (no "HD remaster" work AFAIK) but the game is still solid and since I doubt the original X-box version will have online included, I'd suggest waiting on the re-release and playing the game multiplayer as that's the REAL draw of the game (the single-player is solid as well, but it's really designed around 2v2 multiplayer)

I think my favorite Xbox game was Gunvalkyrie.  There was other great stuff, Phantom Dust or PGR2 or Rallisport Challenge 2 are probably tied second best and Blue Dragon/Lost Odyssey behind that.  Halo 2 as well and JSRF.  Gunvalkyrie was just like perfection Japanese hardcore action.  Miss those days.  Vanquish was probably the last game of that era imo.

Yeah that was deliberate. It's not worth picking up these days unless you're a die hard fan of the series. I own it myself though.

Speaking of which a few games I listed are probably not "must-have" exclusives either since they aren't that great (LOOKING AT YOU, BREAKDOWN) but they're so unique and cheap it's worth getting regardless.

Catalyst does some things better than the first, but some things not quite as good. The tighter construction of the runs [with prebuilt levels] makes it more fun to hit your stride and fly through the level, but I actually liked having the open world and finding the best routes from one place to another. Basically, more choices overall for movement, but they're not quite as compelling. So, it's a bit of a tradeoff, there, but the mechanics themselves are still totally solid and fun. Combat's a somewhat bigger focus [certain objectives require you to defeat all enemies before they can be completed] and it does work better overall than the first game, but it's still just...whatever. It's just not an interesting part of either game.

Overall, I just really enjoyed the ME world and any excuse to explore it was just fine with me.

so yeah I dunno why mirror's edge catalyst got trashed in reviews when everyone and their mother wants to claim they're the biggest fan ever if the original.

bottom line is the new game gives a lot more courses, with better controls to boot. the main campaign is about the same length as the original, but there's a ton of extra challenges placed all over the map, including user-created courses. add in collectibles that basically have you figuring out a parkour puzzle, and there's plenty to keep you busy. i also found it was a lot less frustrating than the original because Faith builds speed quicker and the controls are vastly more responsive. no more hopping into a pit when you were trying to do a wall run! the awful parts in the original that required you to stop and slowly look around for the next place to jump are gone too. every map feels designed to keep you moving at top speed no matter what.

now I can certainly see how people might be disappointed in the game, because instead of refining the problems of the first game they tried something new and created a whole new set of problems. the open world isn't as amazing as it could have been. it's not boring at all but there are choke points that you'll end up running thru again and again. in some ways it was necessary to keep segments of the map gates until later in the story, but there are areas when there just aren't enough alternative routes that open up. i ended up using quick travel a lot. combat doesn't have shitty guns anymore but they replaced them with spammy melee. they also put in a lot more enemies unfortunately so sometimes you end up kicking around a bunch of guys till you have a clear path forward.

oh also the story sucks just as bad as everyone said. "both sides are bad!" f u dude that shit doesn't fly anymore in Donald trumps America.

anyway my mind is wandering so I'll type up more later maybe. this game is fun and I like it

“Deus vult” has an uncomfortable connotation for many
Quote
Despite the lighthearted use of the phrase by the For Honor community, rooted in pre-existing video game culture, the alt-right had resurfaced the age-old battle cry months earlier for more sinister purposes.
Quote
While this connection has been debated — some argue that the phrase’s popularity is only attributable to Crusader Kings — the prevalent understanding is that “Deus vult” in the alt-right context is just another code word for hate-mongering. (It’s also another example of the movement re-appropriating iconography for its purposes. Refer to the history of the “Pepe the frog” meme for more on that.)
Quote
“The current surge of Deus Vult does not seem to be part of [Crusader Kings], but part of a growing hatred for islamification, proved by simply reading the comments that come with that phrase,” explained one Redditor to another
Quote
We’ve contacted Ubisoft for comment and will update if we hear back.
