i've always imagined a lot of those more fly-by-night seeming console remasters or whatever probably have a bunch of junk on the discs
sports games have always had lots of legacy stuff on their discs in part because they're afraid to remove some of it and in part because the cycles are nine to ten months so they just dummy it out at the top level, like hooks to former players names for commentary, in NBA Live for a number of years you could do something as simple as putting the number back in the database for the roster and it'd say them again until they changed to a different announcer so all the files were new
it's a bad example, especially because they're still in the game as a legend and on the classic teams, but it'd be like typing in "1605" or something and they'd say "Tim Duncan" or "Kevin Garnett" or "Kobe Bryant" again like he was any other player...2K actually accidentally left Steve Nash out last year I think and issued a patch which was simply a database change as all his files were already still there from years prior
