Definitely unexpected. I hope handholding isn't too bad, because preset map icons have bothered me quite a bit in JRPGs recently. Reviewers are too dumb to notice that kind of stuff, or even commend games for it.

Saw that the Gamespot reviewer gave it a mediocre review and mentioned something about DLC packs to level up/give you crafting materials/etc and how "they balanced the game so you need to use DLC". Could just be a case of "lol game journalists suck at videogames" though.

Pre-ordered it this week because the pre-order costumes looked cool

Probably won't get around to actually playing it for a while though. Unless I drop Xenoblade 2 and play this first.

Also haven't played Skyward Sword and Paper Mario Switch yet.

I'm not surprised, I always had faith. Arise has looked like an actual serious production from the start, something they knew to put more money into. And honestly, Namco adopting Unreal tech has mostly led to solid work from them. Ace Combat, Soul Calibur, Tekken, and so on. I feel like Japanese development adopting middle tools has really taken the weight off of them.

Eh, reviews don't mean anything for me for Tales. Westerners liked Berseria which I thought was pretty bad. This one is still getting a lot of 8s and some 7s saying it's same ole' Tales for better or worse. I find it surprising people are like Tales comeback! When the same people slobered over Berseria which was the last Tales game before this one!

I'll play it, but I am expecting another shitty Tales. Last good Tales game was Vesperia/Abyss.

Xillia/Zesteria/Berseria were all bad

Also from the demo this game looks like crap with an awful filter and runs like shit quality mode on PS5. Supposedly it is fine on Series X though. I'll wait and see how the PC version is.

Yeah so far the pixel remasters soundtracks have been off-the-charts good. Probably helps that the original compositions are already massive bangers.

I’m so hyped to hear FF5 pixel remaster, it’s probably my favorite ff soundtrack overall.

even better is that they apparently didn't respond to requests for keys to steam resellers until today so you couldn't buy the game for less than $59.99 before launch, I could usually pick it up for like $40 on pre-order but now I'm just going to wait until it's under $20 (or free on EGS again) and I'm a massive idiot who gets the game every year like a normie!
