this question is aimed mostly at Joe cuz I know he's played a lot of these toy-games: is Disney Infinity any good? I'm looking for a kinda aimless game to dick around in with a friend locally and I like the idea of Infinity blending all of Disney's properties, plus the figures look cool enough. Is it worth picking up? Keep in mind I have no internet access here so if significant features are online-only that'd be noteworthy. How does it stack up to Lego games? I feel like the Toy Box feature would add a lot of replay value, does it actually live up to that?
It really is just a kids' game, with very few failure states, and very few rewarding win conditions. Avalanche has made a really robust set of Legos for kids to play with. The playsets have some interesting missions but they're all really basic.
The build-your-own-world stuff is impressive, and has a lot of neat engineering items, which players can use to define many interesting games, from races, to collecting, to hitting switches and opening new areas of a map. These things are crazy in complexity considering that they are all user created. However trading of these user created worlds is all handled online, so that's kind of out.
Also if you're trying to get by with minimal worldly goods right now on a collection of figures is one quick way to make your life messy.
