My understanding is that all his VN stuff is pretty good with some misses, but when he tried to make a game with non-VN gameplay (Worlds End Club) it was fucking terrible.

So hopefully that one is just a VN. I heard AI Somnium was fine.

Saying this because the trailer almost makes it look like an action game spinoff or something.

So I got that Bitmap Books "Guide to Japanese Role-Playing Games" LE book and just arrived. Pretty damn nice. I've bought a few game coffee table books here and there but this definitely seems like one of the best just in terms of build/print quality. Will be nice to go on the shelf.

Although I think I'll always feel irked that I didn't write this because I feel like I could've written this book myself.

Havent bought a new tv in ages, right now im rocking a 48 inch sony bravia kdl-48w705c

But sadly there is a light bleed or damage at the edge of the screen, no idea how it happened maybe something bumped into it when I was moving but I cant say for sure. Its like a slight light bleeding, and its distracting and annoying and people always ask wow is ur tv broken? It looks like a scratch but on the panel you cant even feel it.

So yea, treat myself with my vacation moneys

The patch is only for the newer 2021 C1 models, but supposedly is coming later for the CX models.

They mostly port games but they do it rather well.
They did the PC version of the latest Tomb Raider for example.

I'm gonna by an LG once I stop being lazy and hit the order button. I just don't want burly amazon delivery stranger men in my house and it's too heavy for me to lift it up 3 flights of stairs (let alone moving my existing tv down 3 flights of stairs).

Sadly my LG OLED now has a small (about 1" large) triangle on the screen where the red pixels won't activate... apparently this isn't just regular burn-in but a defect. Gotta call LG and see if they'd do repairs (my TV was purchased late 2017 but I hear the warranty might still cover this, based on forum articles I've read).

It's possible that you could sort of slide the box up the stairs, but getting some help would be the best way for sure. When I got a 48" CX, it came in a gigantic padded box and I had help getting it up the stairs. It wasn't as bad once I got it out of there, but one of the reasons I returned it pretty much immediately was because it was too heavy and barely fit into the space I had for it. :'(

We're house-hunting now and one of the first things I'm gonna do when I get a bigger space is go get a newer model. Hopefully 65" or larger.

Alright, you guys convinced me to pull the trigger on the LG C1. Arriving on Saturday morning.
I can only fit 55" but I got the 65" because I'm dumb and want big things. I will make it work in this small room ...somehow.

Was mildly interested in the extra 10% brightness G1 provides but it's wall mount only or tacky costly stands and at least with my current setup I refuse to do wall mounts. I don't like how wall mounts look and I have always been a person that needs to easily get behind tvs to their inputs. I'm sure the brightness in the C series will be good enough coming from my Panasonic 1080p Plasma.

Also I realized for the 4k/120fps VRR stuff I need HDMI 2.1 stuff like my normal HDMI cables won't do. Also I guess I may need a new AV receiver that supports 2.1? Since normally I pass through the HDMI from console -> AV -> TV and I'm guessing the 2.1 signal won't pass through.

Might be able to go straight from PS5 2.1 -> TV for video and then TV hdmi out to AV for audio? Will test once I get this setup tomorrow. Ordered a couple HDMI 2.1 cables to arrive tomorrow as well. Didn't even think of the whole 2.1 stuff until just now.

I spent way too much time looking into the whole hdmi 2.1 thing and apparently the tech is just getting there.

If I go PS5 -> LG -> Receiver it only works if you have a receiver newer than 2018 with EARC hdmi passback for the audio. My 2015 AV receiver doesn't have that. So best I can do is optical cable and be stuck with 5.1 dolby digital (which given that I'm on a 5.0 setup currently in a small room is probably fine).

If I go PS5 -> Receiver -> LG I need a 2.1 HDMI passthrough receiver and no working model exists on the market. There are a few but they are broken and you need external converters and shit to get this working. The very first goddamn working 2.1 passthrough receiver was just reviewed 3 weeks ago and is $1,200 and won't be widely available until somewhere between August -> October (guessing the latter end).

Now a year ago the solution would've been to upgrade my 2015 AV receiver to a newer one with EARC and pass the audio back from the tv, but no point in buying a temporary solution one when 2.1 passthrough AV receivers are finally about to start coming out and will just work like normal with your stuff going into receiver and one receiver line going to the tv.

So after all that research it seems like if I want my 120fps VRR experience on PS5 I'm gonna have to live with optical cable dolby digital/dts audio for a while until I can get that receiver at some point in the fall. Which is fine, just a bit annoying having to downgrade sound slightly for video upgrade.

Pretty sure if I don't care about the 3 games that support 120hz currently I could just run the PS5 through my existing receiver like normal and normal ass HDMI will be good enough for 4k/60fps on everything. This may be the solution once I finish Ratchet which I want the 120hz mode for so I can play @ 40fps fidelity mode. I'm assuming HDMI 2.0 gonna be fine for HDR and all that jazz otherwise.

I have the LG C8, it doesn't do 120hz/4k but it does do 120hz/1080p.

If you want a 'cheap' fix you can get the Sonos Arc soundbar that supports HDMI 2.1 and eARC

Just picking up a Roku box now because the one app LG doesn’t natively have is HBO Max and on PS5 it’s SDR only, no HDR or Dolby Vision. Pretty annoying but I want to watch these day 1 home releases in HDR/DV.

sounds like you have filters on mmarsu or an upscaling algorithm is fucking with the image. something simply being sdr shouldn't make it noisy or cause artifacting. if you're forcing hdr mode with sdr content it doesn't have the tone maps and will look fucked up

FF7r looks insane too. Same with Ratchet. Man, games have reached new territory of mind-blowing visuals. And games that don't support HDR are lame af now.
