Say what you will about them, the Stankees are pretty good about not hiring crazy people. Homosexual-rod doesn't count- he's obviously just a closeted homosexual, not actually crazy. I mean, when Kyle Farnsworth is barely tolerated I doubt Elijah Dukes is gonna make it on their team.

And I actually kinda buy that there wasn't one specific incident but that everyone is happy he's gone. It's obvious that he's a kind of crazy thug.

Some reporter asked how a person that does cocaine - recreationally or otherwise - could seriously be allowed to manage Josh Hamilton, a recovering crack addict. Hopefully Washington's habit is done with, but that would be totally depressing if it spread in the locker room.

... as for Dukes, I still don't buy that this wasn't tied to any one incident. He was penciled in as their starting right fielder and we're just two weeks away from Opening Day. The team never gave any indication it was unhappy or thinking about cutting him, and I think I just read some fluff piece about Dukes pulling his life together about a week ago.

At any rate, the rotation is still terrible and save for Nyjer Morgan, it's a pretty bad outfield. It's tough to be a fan, but at least I like the way Rizzo handles the clubhouse versus Bowden. Now I just hope they lock up Dunn before the season starts, or else we are going to have to look for a replacement first baseman next season.

I just hope Zimmerman isn't wasted before the team puts together a good roster.

Worth it, barring some career-threatening injuries. He will probably make that entire number up in ticket revenue alone after his first two years. It's nice to see the Twins lock him down. The last thing I wanted was to see him in pinstripes.

Now, the Nats need to lock up Dunn, which I hear is close. Once we unload Guzman so Desmond can play every day, and if Flores bounces back, that means all we need in the infield is a second baseman. Two corner infielders to replace Dukes' empty spot and the one that will be left by Willingham once he's traded at the deadline. I see the Nats taking a position player in the draft as a result.

... Getting another pitcher will be silly. Zimmerman and Strasburg will be the 1-2 punch come Opening Day 2011, with Lannan and Marquis behind them. They should just sign a good starter in free agency. Storen is the closer of the future, Olsen and Bergmann can settle in the bullpen.

That said, this year, they might be worse than LAST year.

Went to the Astros/Mets game today.

Game got cancelled, top of the 2nd, due to rain.

Astros were winning 1-0. Bottom of the first inning ended with Astros leading, runners on first and third and they probably would have had another run if not for that fly ball.

So yeah, Astros won. Sorry, Cajole!

Anyways, I was shocked Astros were doing decent at bat, especially without Tejada. I don't feel too good about this season, but whatever.

Anyway, some gaffer -- the only one who expressed interest in an auction league -- created his own league on ESPN.com for whatever reason. He sent me an invite and told him I'd join, but you have to make an ESPN.com account and the sign up form looks so annoying; I don't feel like filling that shit out. If Triumph and pollo are definitely in as well then fine, but otherwise I don't know if I want to bother.

Tejada is pretty crappy now, I think replacing his bat is the least of the Astros' worries. That said, they've always seemed like a team that held together with super glue and Lance Berkman for like the past ten years, so I don't know how they manage to stay relevant but God bless 'em.
