Tejada is pretty crappy now, I think replacing his bat is the least of the Astros' worries. That said, they've always seemed like a team that held together with super glue and Lance Berkman for like the past ten years, so I don't know how they manage to stay relevant but God bless 'em.

Well, there's interest in selling them.

I just think they need new management. People who are willing to build a team full of young guys.

And I know Tejada's not that great now, but he was the best hitter on the 'Stros. :lol

And Brian Bannister! And, uh... Gil Meche!

I like reading all the Nationals blog comments on the Washington Post, where the fans get enraged about the Lerners not opening up the pocket books for Jermaine Dye, Ben Sheets, etc. It's like some weird crossover effect where they think the "overpaying for washed-up veterans that can't help you if your core team is not very good" tactic from Dan Snyder is the way to go.

I understand Washington fans are a little restless, but in my opinion, the blame should be put on Omar Minaya - not the owners and front-office that are trying to clean up Minaya and Bowden's mess.

Players traded away from the Expos' farm system prior to moving to D.C. courtesy of Omar Minaya:

Jason Bay (2004 Rookie of the Year, All-Star in 2005, 2006, & 2009, Top 25 in MVP Voting 2005 & 2006)
Cliff Lee (2008 AL Cy Young Award, All-Star in 2008, Top 25 in MVP Voting 2008, 4th in AL Cy Young Voting 2005)
Grady Sizemore (All-Star in 2006, 2007, & 2008, Gold Glove in 2007 & 2008, Silver Slugger in 2008, Top 25 in MVP Voting 2005-2008)
Brandon Phillips (Gold Glove in 2008, Top 25 in MVP Voting 2007)
Chris Young (2007 All-Star)

... Wow, thanks a lot Omar! Remember back in 2002 and 2003 when he traded all those young players for Bartolo Colon and Cliff Floyd in some stupid run for the pennant?

Basically, Minaya mortgaged the entire future of the organization for almost a decade.

Then MLB hired Bowden and he made things significantly worse.

Kazmir for Victor Zambrano was the Colon deal on a smaller scale. I just don't know how highly-touted Lee, Sizemore, and Phillips were at the time of that deal, while Kazmir was the gem of the Mets' system.

Edit: you know what, I always forget Minaya wasn't the one responsible for that Kazmir trade.

It doesn't matter how valued they were, he traded away the entire farm system. ALL OF IT.

I think when the Nationals finally arrived in D.C., the farm system was made up 40-year-olds and that fat guy that The Rookie is based on.

Also, Sizemore, Lee and Phillips were all highly regarded at the time, and were given to Cleveland in ONE TRADE for BARTOLO COLON.

Yes, for BARTOLO COLON.

Also traded away Carl Pavano and Guillermo Mota, apparently.

... Point is, you could make a half-way decent roster of all the players Minaya traded away. Totally ridiculous.

Braves winning 3-2.  Sadly, Heyward didn't start since Perez is "a tough lefty" or some such bullshit.  Hopefully he comes into the game soon.  Also, I forgot how awful Joe Morgan was/is.  Thanks for the reminder!

Also, Francoeur just doubled Chipper off of first on a flyball.  FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU

The sad thing is, he could have probably been one the greatest pitchers in the game had he not been such a colossal fuck up. I mean, it's amazing to think that he's only in his forties. He could have been pitching all last decade. Almost all his decent stats are prior to the '90s. He wasted two decades.

Mariners, baby. I haven't been posting because:

1) I don't do fantasy sports.
2) The season hasn't started.
3) The lack of other AL West fans makes it difficult for my posts to have much traction.

Strasburg and Storen get called up in June, which is probably when Wang joins the rotation. Zimmermann also gets called up in August. Their pitching will be stabilized as a result after the All-Star break.

... if they can ship out Desmond, I like their infield, with the exception of Adam Kennedy.

I like how you keep joking about Santana when you have Hudson on your staff.

Hudson has already had his TJ surgery, and in recent years guys have come back really well from that.  Look at Peter Moylan having over 80 relief appearances last year in his first year back, etc etc.  Hudson has looked sharp all spring, too, including today when he pitched six scoreless innings against a team with a far better offense than the Mutts.  Hudson will be just fine.

Lowe is the real question mark.  If he continues to suck we probably don't end up contending.  Then of course there's our lineup, which is held together with training tape and spit.  Lots of questions around Glaus and Chipper, and McClouth has looked atrocious all spring.  We could either contend for the division or finish third at barely above .500.  Who knows?  At least we're not like the Mets, where there's no hope for this year.

Also, $10 for Heyward isn't that bad, he went for like $15 in the mock draft I did beforehand.  And no, I stopped bidding on him after he hit $12 in that particular draft.
